Oddly enough, there are tablets called āSleep Aidā. I have used them and feel they do help. As there were none left in the chemist when I last wanted some, I had to settle for āNytolā. Seemed to work but Iād say not as good because I didnāt drop off as quickly. Not getting any sleep until about 3 or 4am at the mo after going to bed about 10.30
I know itās just excitement brain overload for my forthcoming trip to New York as it started about a week and a half ago when I bought my ESTA visa and started planning my days. Iām just not good at all with adrenalin.
Am going to try a Nytol tonight.
Has anybody used any over the counter sleeping aids with any success ? I donāt want to burn out before I even get there
Any recommendations appreciated.
Thanks
Karen

The 50mg are much more successful than the 25mg.
If they donāt work, try an apple from a wicked queen.

Depends where you sleep...Itās the only way Iāll catch it
Lavery on the pillow, those soft Irish tones send you off right away. You need a natural herbal remedy with no side effects.
Weed then innit, lavender on your pillow my arse...
Itās possibly a bit of that tooSymptom of "the change" my wife is suffering ansomnia and lots of hot flushes!
Iām a window open sleeper, even when itās Baltic. For white noise as much as freshness, and thereās always a car or two passing by my houseWhite noise helps me massively.
Any kind does it for me and always has.
I remember being in the kitchen as a child (freezing cold, single glazing etc) and testing against the old twin tub, the warmth and noise and vibration was so soothing.
When I travel, the noise of the engine/rumble of the road will help me sleep - means if I'm not driving I'm a rubbish travel companion but always arrive feeling fresh - slept pretty much both ways when we went to NY for example.
Personally i like a fan blowing on me at night. MrsTSS doesn't like it, so I sleep with an app reproducing the sound in my ears. It's not quite as good, but it does the trick.
I guess you've tried the "write down everything in your head before you go to sleep"Iām a window open sleeper, even when itās Baltic. For white noise as much as freshness, and thereās always a car or two passing by my house
Iāve a feeling I will sleep tonight, always the optimist
Ye. I donāt feel like there is anything Iām actually dwelling on. I think Iām just a bit wired with excitement and my head isnāt switching off even though my body wants to.I guess you've tried the "write down everything in your head before you go to sleep"
Might help putting all those things you're thinking about down on paper so you've done something with them before you nod off?
No I havenāt. Iām not waking up mid sleep though, Iām just not able to get off in the first placeJust a thought but have you had a sleep study done and been tested for sleep apnoeaā¦.
Well, being excited about it is better than the opposite: even if it means insufficient sleep for a little whileYe. I donāt feel like there is anything Iām actually dwelling on. I think Iām just a bit wired with excitement and my head isnāt switching off even though my body wants to.
I donāt have any current worries at all, and my trip is now actually over planned if anything
Agreed !! I will sleep through most of March to compensateWell, being excited about it is better than the opposite: even if it means insufficient sleep for a little while
Fair enough. I had a sleep study done a few years ago and I was waking up 35 times an hour!! Iād no idea. I also struggled to get to sleep. I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea and now have a CPAP machine every night. I fall asleep within a minute and am never tired. My life has supposedly been extended at least 10 years as no pressure on my heart anymore which apparently was the case pre-diagnosis. If you feel tired in the daytime it might be worth getting it looked at. So many people have it but are unaware. No I havenāt. Iām not waking up mid sleep though, Iām just not able to get off in the first place
Thanks, will bear that in mind. 35 times an hour, wow, you must have been shattered !Fair enough. I had a sleep study done a few years ago and I was waking up 35 times an hour!! Iād no idea. Thanks. I swear by my machine now. Keep your eye on things and if youāre tired in the daytime Iād advise you to get it looked into. Thanks, will bear that in mind. 35 times an hour, wow, you must have been shattered !
Glad you got sorted. Nothing better than decent sleep, and nothing worse than a lack of it.

Were you waking up feeling terrible and tired all day? How easy is it to sleep with a machine on?Fair enough. I had a sleep study done a few years ago and I was waking up 35 times an hour!! Very Howard & Hilda.Me and wife take a couple of paracetamol at bed-time to help relax into a good night's sleep. Some soothing music as well could lead to the land of nod.
Oh lord I did. From just before midnight, then woke at 6 as normal but then back to sleep again and on and off until now
More Howard and Anne actually.Very Howard & Hilda.

Have all that every night and you might miss your flight(seriously though enjoy your holiday ,my wife has been she used to sell tours for schools for NST), and had to do inspection visits, lucky bugger and NEW YORK was one she had to go to she loved it.I have an abundance of sleep aid paraphernalia for tonight so thanks for all the tips.
I have a spray of this, a spray of that, a hot milky drink, a book, some antihistamines and Iāve thrown in a couple of new orthopaedic pillows for good measure.
Will be holding out as late as I can tonight, and if this stuff all works then I may not wake up at all tomorrow
Thanks again all
Thanks Peter ! Ye, Iām going to try aid free again tonight, or just the sprays but ditch the nytol. They say itās sometimes about just getting one good night sleep to get you back into the routineHave all that every night and you might miss your flight(seriously though enjoy your holiday ,my wife has been she used to sell tours for schools for NST), and had to do inspection visits, lucky bugger and NEW YORK was one she had to go to she loved it.

As for New York, am buzzin
Looking back now, pre sleep apnoea, I was tired in the day time. Iām genuinely never tired now until itās ābedtimeā. It took a couple of days to get used to the kit but now itās second nature and I wouldnāt be seen without it.Were you waking up feeling terrible and tired all day? What do you do if you're going on holiday, is it easily portableLooking back now, pre sleep apnoea, I was tired in the day time. Iām genuinely never tired now until itās ābedtimeā. It took a couple of days to get used to the kit but now itās second nature and I wouldnāt be seen without it.
Iām surprised as non about kebabs and Pizza toppings.Just read some of Jaffa's posts on here.......send you straight off.
Itās like a wide briefcase. I take it in the cabin. In the uk you just have to open it up at passport control before putting it in the tray. Itās easy to carry. What do you do if you're going on holiday, is it easily portable
