To mix it up a bit from the everything posted from last night's performance.

In what I'm sure we woukd agree wasn't a great performance in all I thought bowler was fantastic, direct, exciting, looking forward to seeing him develop even more in confidence 👍

I know this is far to chirpy for most of you all but wanted to lighten the mood 😂

Great post. The fact of the matter is that if we had won 3-0 last night there would still be the usual critics who would find fault with the performance!
BTW I thought we were very good in the second half and lots of positives to be taken from the game.

We played some good football in the 2nd half and had one or two chances that need to be put away at this level, but once we get the spine of the team with injured players coming back it will be very different and breed confidence.

The positive for me is that we're awful. If we were playing at the top of our ability and still getting overrun I'd be worried but there's so much scope for improvement even to get back to last season's level that I'm not too concerned atm.

Cardiff looked a class above on Saturday but Coventry looked more our level and, in truth, we probably should have drawn that game given the chances.

Presently we can't perform simple passes, play one-twos, keep the ball off a throw, put a decent cross in, keep a straight back line or even trap a ball on many occasions. Once we get this then we should look a lot different. Of course, most of this is our fault because the team Critchley keeps selecting seems ill-equipped to perform the functions he wants. We play a high back line with the slowest defence ever, a pressing game with midfielders who sit back and don't tackle and high balls up to Lavery.

I feel sorry for Reece James; the bloke has no idea what he's doing in central midfield but he keeps being thrown in there. I hope Critchley's being patient and not stubborn.

I don't understand the Keogh/Ekpiteta situation. If we continue playing like this we're going to be 3 or 4 down at half-time soon and that just adds more pressure on the players and manager and will probably force the club to get in another centre-back from outside.

It's early days but it's frustrating to have to go through this phase having already surpassed the current standard for most of last season.

I think some are underplaying our chances. We had several and they were gilt-edged - at least two or three 1v1s with the keeper. For all our defensive frailty and Covs first half performance, in the end we had more than enough opportunities to take something from the game last night.
We need a right back, and we need Dougall and Ekpiteta back in the side asap and i'm confident we'll start picking up points. There were some glimmers of hope in the second half.

As things stand we are going to get a few chances and score a few of them. The worry is without Stewart and Dougall infront of them any combination of players in a back four of a 442 set up is going to leak goals making it harder for us to win games. A midfield general to slot in for when Stewart is injured is a must IMO if we are going to persist in not matching up with opposition formations.

Bowler is looking to be our best signing. Looks like he frightens defenders cos he does what every defender hates and that is run at you with speed with the ball at their feet - opens up defences as everyone has to track back at speed.

Needs to work on his delivery though, he's JUST off with it and once it clicks he'll be assisting for fun.

Agree that Bowler had a very good game. He was by far our best player.
But the opposition spotted that after a while, and at one stage they had four men on him.
As someone has said, we need a right wing back to help him out, then perhaps delivery would be better
The thing about having 3 or 4 players on him is that it should free up teammates, but we just couldn't take advantage because our midfield was AWOL.
As a team we didn't turn up until the second half.

Agree with that and will just add that because of the slowness of our play at times which makes it obvious where the ball is gonna end up it allowed Coventry to get plenty of men around Bowler to negate his effectiveness.

The positive from last night was that, despite not playing fluently, we created 3 or 4 gilt edged chances. Obviously not taking at least one or two of those is a tad worrying.

The main negative is the lack of pace at centre-back. Means the defence drops a couple of yards deep opening up lots of room for the opposition between the front 4 and the 2 centre mids. Leaves the centre mids horribly exposed. Need to get big Marv and the Viking back (or a 'Ballard' type loan) in their asap. Also a right back who can add some more attacking threat.

Bowler and Lavery look good additions id like to see a bit more of Carey i think he has potential the back four i think we have huge problems not helped by a disjointed midfield.

Yep, agree. Whereas I don't think Keogh has been as bad as some on here say, he is clearly lacking in pace. Has to be said, it seems a very strange signing and I think the longer Critchley persists with him the more problems we'll have. So yep, get Marv back in. I think Critchleys worry is the lack of experience there though and is why Keogh is currently getting the nod.
