I'm not sure. If we do it and get a negative result, I'm concerned that it sets Critch backward on his road to enlightenment.
Ultimately, we've got 1 tough game, then a run of 8 against sides considerably lower than us, with less resources. I'd be perfectly happy to take a functional point at Pompey if it meant we went at every single one of those next 8 opponents if that makes sense. It's not beating Pompey that defines our season, it's making wins against teams like we played yesterday par for the course.
We beat the bottom 13 home and away (I know we can't now do that cos the season is already a third over, but humour me) and that's 78 points. Another 12-15 points against the top 13 and we're pretty much nailed on for automatic.
What I'm essentially saying is - I don;t mind a masterclass against Pompey at their place. That's the time and place for one. I don't want masterclasses against out of form teams at home.
You realise we didn’t play 442 yesterday, right?Line up same as yesterday, we can beat any team when we play 442 and not a lone player up front
A nice blend of realism and positivity.
Get yourself back on the Podcast and show them how it's done.
Slightly in Jest...I'm a fan of the Podcasts in truth and appreciate the commitment from all those taking part.I'm just a shit Nick
Equally, if we set up more defensively (which I think we will) and lose he will get pelters from the fans for being too negative.I'm not sure. If we do it and get a negative result, I'm concerned that it sets Critch backward on his road to enlightenment.

Apologies 352 my point being 2 up frontYou realise we didn’t play 442 yesterday, right?
We weren't 442 yesterday?Line up same as yesterday, we can beat any team when we play 442 and not a lone player up front
I assume NC will have been studying their form.I can't see Pompey allowing us to play like we did yesterday. Very different game.
Don't think they'll allow us to play 12Grimshaw
Gabriel Connolly Pennington Casey Marv Husband Thompson Lyons
Dougall Norburn Cary
Formation: 1-8-3-0
Could've or could have.Look at how Charlton attacked them (Gwan Mapp!), I think that’s the way you guys need to go too. Charlton couldn’t of scored more than the two they did, admittedly so could of Pompey…
Thought Carey did exceptionally well, too often he seems unsure of his role, but with Dembele in front of him he was acting as proverbial water carrier.Only change I’d make would be Norburn in for Carey to shore it up a bit. I’d even consider Lyons for Dale as he’s a marginally better defender and still a threat on the left.
Haha, the sentiment was correct, good spot. I hope you do go there and give 'em what for. Chesterfield beat 'em the other week, let's not forget...Could've or could have.
If Charlton and Carlisle can go there and give them a game, so can we.
Football fans often get carried away after wins, and after defeats. I try to look at how the teams performing across the last few games, what is working and what isn't. I think our side is coming together, we played pretty well at Bolton but without enough threat up front, I think cos Lavery got injured in training he opted for one striker. Since then, Beesley has come in for an EFL trophy game and won himself a place, and we've seen Joseph have a couple of good cameos. He looks sharp already. Marv makes a difference, in my opinion, too. If Norburn is fit we could go to Pompey in good shape. The best shape we've been. The Shrews game provides a good confidence boost ahead of it.Haha, the sentiment was correct, good spot. I hope you do go there and give 'em what for. Chesterfield beat 'em the other week, let's not forget...
But as you point out, Shrewsbury are bloody awful and not a good barometer generally...
I'd like pace available for the last 20 minutes as they seem to be a side that sees games out.Exactly the same please. Portsmouth seemingly rely on a strong defence, they've scored less than us, but obviously don't conceded very many at all. Expect them to be quite cautious, a bit like Bolton, defending further up the field, and being aggressive. get them making mistakes in their defensive third.
What does taking out A-game to them mean in terms of tactics/setup though? Not a snarky question just genuinely curiousNothing but a win please. Let’s take our A-game to them and see how they cope. Would be a great barometer to see how could we actually are/can be. UTP
2 up top (Rhodes & Beesley) Dembele sitting behind, attacking formation and intent to score as many goal’s possible from the off let’s take the game to Pompy. What does taking out A-game to them mean in terms of tactics/setup though? Not a snarky question just genuinely curious
