How many days..months...years before it all goes pear shaped....The money they are paying is crazy...how long can it be sustainable ?

Sadly true. They will keep upping the stakes until every major sport has a highly moneyed presence there. Nobody is going to want to watch the football but players and of course their agents will continue to fill their boots. Golf had a chance to head them off but it looks like they've blown it.
 
They have more money than they could ever spend. Making billions every week. They can purchase anything they want to.
 
Looks like the new version of the China league. The Chinese introduced a limit to foreign players eventually which halted the exodus of players. I doubt Saudi will do the same. What I fail to understand is surely high profile players coming to the end of their career have surely enough money for life and then some.

Indeed. And Japan before them, and the NASL back in the Pele/Beckenbauer days.

These things tend to fail if they’re built on sand. Possibly the fact Saudi has an actually had a semi-decent football league for decades will count in their favour. Or it might just end up wiping that away as well.
 
With temperatures rising faster in Saudi than most of the globe the country could become uninhabitable before 2100. Not ideal conditions for football.
 
Can see it going on a long time and won’t be long until they manage to work their way into the Champions League.

Whilst the source of the money is a concern amongst other things in the country it does make me laugh people on the radio moaning about then splashing the cash for all the best players…. You mean like the Premier League has done for years??

I was thinking the same. All the best players were allegedly going to China, but what happened in reality was that players looking for a final payday went.

Think this will be the same. A Saudi League title doesn't really have the same cachet as a European Cup.

Funnily enough I was wondering yesterday when the Saudi's would try to muscle in on the CL. It's sure to happen.

according to x-pro ( ex players charity ) 3 out of 5 ex premier league players go bankrupt after retiring. Brilliant documentary on ESPN about American sports and how 80 % of ex players go bankrupt there called "Broke"
 
Not sure they can muscle in on the champions league. There would be much uproar I would have thought.

That's the Saudi's biggest issue me thinks.

I am sure a lot of the world's top players will want to continue playing in the champions league and that is something they can't offer.

If there's money in it then UEFA will want some.

Even FIFA too.
 
The Champions League is a European competition run by UEFA. Saudi is not in Europe and never can be, FIFA would never agree to the country coming under UEFA rather than their current governing body, and if UEFA proposed it the breakaway of the top European clubs would become a reality as they would no longer be the top dogs financially - unless they'd already sold out to the Arabs of course (hawaay the lads?)

Well nothing would surprise me with them tw4t$ involved.

They will have to change the whole format of the thing 😔

Best thing they could do is try to alter the World club championship thing to appease the Saudi's and to make it more of an elite competition.

That will of course be seen negatively from the big clubs around Europe and won't want added games in what is already a packed schedule. Money talks though.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they do try and muscle in on the CL. And then only a matter of time before UEFA accept their blood money and allow them in.

How will the Saudi billionaires fill the grounds, or does that matter to them?
Entrance will possibly be free to locals.
Wait until the 'Superstars' go on the pitch and there are about 5/6,000 in the stands.
The proletariat will probably be forced to go.
 
I just want to be able to watch it you can’t view it on any platform just seems like a waste

Just shows how addictive money is they just cannot get enough after so many millions. Some of the greatest players that will has ever seen selling themselves like prostitutes on the street corner to the highest bidder. Saudi Arabia. Here was an opportunity for them to stand up and be counted as humans, decent people with scruples not just footballers. They blew it, cheap skates.
