So what did Wycombe do right?

I think we're arguably a bigger club and a better run club than Wycombe, so looking back on their season, what did they do right and what can we learn from that?

They are well organised, work extremely hard and are good on the break/from set pieces. They also know how to manage a game by slowing play to suit them. As much as some of their tactics irk me, not every club have the finances to play like Brazil. They've found a formula that works for them and has taken them to the Championship, for that, they must be congratulated.

An American has bought a major shareholding in Wycombe. He plans to take the Adams Park capacity up to 20k, but his plan is being held up by a local farmer. The ground is at the end of a cul de sac in an Industrial Estate. The road need to be extended out of the Estate to a local road in order to ease match day congestion. It’s a nightmare getting away from the ground at the moment, even with only a 9.5k capacity. (Imagine big Championship teams coming to town) . The farmer wants to build a hotel on the land, as well as an exit road, and things have stalled. Last night may free things up.

Recruited well, stuck by a manager who brought continuity to the club, played with energy and organisation.

They may have got slightly lucky with PPG, but they took their chance and I hope they do well next season. They will be an example to the likes of Hull, Stoke, Reading and M'boro of what can be done by competent people.

Great spirit, extremely well organised and brilliant and consistent set piece delivery from Jacobson. You can more or less be top six in L1 if you are very good from corners / free kicks.

Played to a plan, performed above their level, won at home a lot. The same stuff that always gets you out of this division.

Know both their strengths and weaknesses and play to the former. Pretty much a case of get it forward and long as quickly as possible and see what develops from it. They played that game very well at Bloomfield Rd.

Take a three month break, allowing an exhausted small squad time to recover and be ready for three games. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been top six of the season had continued. They were in woeful form.

We are a bigger club than Wycombe, but some times it just takes a decent squad where things just click, bit like when we got to the Premier league (and many other smaller clubs have followed). Have a competitive squad and just start a run of games where you don't lose and before you know it your chasing promotion (although whilst if often happens it's just not that easy)🤔🤔🤔🤔

They did what every team should strive to do which is hit the ground running at the start of the season. This was the table after we'd beaten Fleetwood 3-1

1Wycombe191440
2Ipswich181536
3Peterborough191732
4Blackpool19732
5Bristol Rovers18331
6Coventry19331

We were in a perfect position then to really kick on and join them in second place. However, effectively they had an 8 point cushion over 3rd place and even though it all went awry at the end of the season for them - the Play Offs proved a nice lottery for them. Having your squad in place and a good start is so important and I'll always maintain that.

They were extremely lucky to make Play Offs. They had been runaways leaders at start of year and had slipped out of Play Offs by lockdown. Certainly on downward spiral and heading for a mid table finish.
Points per game catapulted them back to 3rd. The the likes of Peterborough were niffed off who were in 6th place.
No wonder they were on a high and grasped the opportunity.

Is having Akinfenwa not classed as cheating?
He literally is the width of 2 players so it’s like having an extra man on the pitch

mechanical orrible team with the "new" obligatory 2 men in black with carrier bags. Shrewsbury had a pair as well.
Modis operandi, play for fouls, corners etc, fall over everytime the other team breaks away. In our 2 games they must of wasted 10 mins of each game.
They could build a ground for 20, 000 but they will never fill it.
Let,s hope we pass them on their way back to div 1 this season.

Theres no comparison with us and Wycombe we definitely are a bigger club, A Ballon D'or winner, 1st football to be knighted, Former Premier League club and years and years ago one of the best teams in England if not the Europe. No disrespect to Wycombe but there is no comparison.

In saying that the were really impressive last season and I do wish them all the best. I think Critchley will make us very happy fans come the end of this coming season. Hopefully

Not a decent pub in sight.

I saw both our games against them (draw at home, loss away). Lots of time wasting, physical and a big element of luck in both games is all I can remember so I'm sticking by that. The kind of team I expect to fade as the season goes on. The season ending early I think did them a big favour.

Literally good at set pieces. That’s it. Scored a boat load from free kicks and corners. Played to their strengths. Fair play. They’ll go down next season
