Sonny Carey

I think the club were cunning in that, although Carey and Lavery both joined from lower leagues, they both had significant years of development at top clubs (Norwich and Everton) prior to dropping down to that level so will need less polishing up than your average lower-league player.
We’ve certainly got an eye for promising youngsters.

These three were really encouraging tonight. Also Ward is worth a mention as he made us transition from defending to attacking so much better !

Husband was superb also and seemed to get better and better as the game went on!

Carey was excellent. Looked like we were playing 4411 with him supporting Lavery but Bowler and CJ obviously getting forward loads from wide. Signs of good things to come from Carey. Scrafton didn't mention him in his report. Poor Matt!

The presenter on Quest said as much, these players (Bowler and Connolly, but same goes for Lavery, Carey and Casey) never got a chance in the first team of their clubs and now they’re making up for lost time.

Early days but looks like good recruitment this summer.

Critch will know them from their Norwich and Everton academy days, basically. We are benefitting from his time at Crewe and particularly Liverpool. Garrity too, no doubt.

There were some writing the new players off again, very recently (not aimed at yourself I add), just like last season & after only seeing a mere glimpse of them in action.

I feel a complaint coming on about the size of the lettering on the back of the players' shirts 😗🚀

Grimshaw literally had nothing to do other than pass out to Marv or Husband
Yeah but still he did it calmly and precisely.

There was a time in the first half he played a perfectly weighted pass for the returning James to turn on and without touching it, he was off forward.

Thats key when playing from the back, weight of pass and seeing the player early.

Looked very comfortable on the ball.

It won't help the likes of Chizzy who last week called a player Bile instead of Bell.

Then again he didn't need to misread small lettering to get it wrong, he's the master of disaster. 😃

Think we’ve taken a bit of a calculated risk on some of these players and we might be in luck.
Makes me laugh when you compare to comments from say, PNE online where they were less than impressed by most of our summer transfer business.

He played some nice passes through to James in the first half, got us out of the odd sideways/backwards lull. Nothing to do in terms of actual goalkeeping.
