Southampton there for the taking ?

I think Mick will want out of the Cup. He had form for it. I hope I am mistaken as it’s not often we have a good cup run and I believe they build momentum and keep the fans engaged. That said maybe Southampton will want out as Premier League survival is more of a priority to them.

If Southampton field a strong side they should beat us, now considering their league position they also may use this as a training exercise. Which we can do also, but we need to play what will be our main starting lineup. It would be nice to progress but equally a half decent performance could be transferred into the league. As has been said it’s a free hit. I’m not sure what to expect.

I'm hoping he'll rotate, but everyone who he sees as starting the week after will get some playing time. Especially those who are apparently short of it, like Trybull and Rogers.

No reason we can't get something there if we show up properly.

We'd be mad to play reserves, it shoud be used to get Mick's formation/tactics together before the important stuff starts. With Southampton having their League Cup semi final on Tuesday we should be fresh and chomping at the bit.

Given the circumstances - new Head Coach coupled with no football this weekend, it's highly likely that MM will field what he believes is his strongest team. Also the tie is sandwiched between Southampton's 2 EFL Cup semi-final matches against Newcastle, therefore It's equally likely that they will squad rotate for the Blackpool match. Potential cup shock on the cards perhaps?

I think with yesterdays match being off MM will use it to take a look at his strongest team. Mick will be on a big bonus to keep us up and if we had played yesterday I doubt he'd have risked any injuries next week.
With them having cup semi finals either side and Prem survival being most important, I can't see them fielding anything like a first X!. We just have to hope they don't lose the first leg heavily to Newcastle or they may have to write it off and have a sprinkling of first teamers against us.

I think it’s a good opportunity and a good chance for MM to get a first win against prem opposition too. In my lifetime I don’t think I’ve ever seen us have a good cup run so would be nice to go for it

Surely Bowler, Rogers,Trybull and Lyons all need to be starters at Southampton as they have had very little competitive football for many weeks now. There may also be other signings this week that are not cuptied who also need to be involved, If McCarthy doesn’t play a strong starting X1 and bench I fail to see how we can be well prepared for Middlesbrough away a week later.

With the majority above, we need to play the team he expects to play at Boro.

Not really arsed if we win lose or draw next week, just need to see some improvement - both on the pitch and from the sidelines.

He's got an ego and its the 4th round of the cup against Prem opposition! A chance for him to get people to notice him and think he's still got what it takes. Interview on MotD etc.

Paints an interesting picture: two teams, both competing to be the loser.

Could do with the Saints beating Newcastle on Tuesday by a goal so they have something to defend going in to the following Tuesday's game. They then have Newcastle/Brentford the following Tues/Sat which would both be much bigger games. For reference when they beat Crystal Palace in the 3rd round they made 5 changes and in terms of shots/possession were outdone by Palace but obviously scored the goals that count.

i think 11/2 (sky bet) represents value for a Blackpool win. I won’t be lumping on but a small interest will be forthcoming as i feel we are certainly in the mix.

Saints make four changes today; two of those are debuts for their new January signings. Then they have us in 4 days, Newcastle again 3 days later, and back to fighting for survival 4 days after that.

I think we'll be playing our best against the weakest side they could reasonably start.

Soton have an EPL squad good enough to send Tella out on loan and will have a pretty good side out on Saturday. Their subs would walk into our team. It's the cup and we have the new boss bounce but we are clear underdogs nonetheless.
