Southport v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread

Let’s hope we come away with no injuries! Didn’t two first teamers suffer innocuous looking injuries last year that kept them out of the start of season or was that year before?

Sounds a decent performance so far and a reminder of how much quality we already have at the club.

Virtue and Dougall will be huge this year.

And before anyone says "It's just Southport", remember we only beat this team 2-0 under Appleton last year and 2-0 under Critchley the Summer before.

Defo a 352 first half. Dale was up front with Holmes. Cj and Moore wingbacks. Trybull very deep in midfield as well.
Great info, thanks for sharing.

Didn't think Critch would go with that formation since he's only ever used 442 and 4231, but we definitely have the squad personnel to make it work, especially considering we don't have many wingers.

I remember last season where we tried 3 defenders and it was piss poor to watch. Would be the same this season. Hopefully we won’t.

Critch only played 352 in league one against some of the better teams, like Sunderland so I doubt this will be what we play all season.

3 at the back works a treat when done correctly, it was just unfortunate that the two managers who tried it last year were Mick McCarthy and Michael Appleton.

We tried 3-4-3 with two wingers and two center midfielders last season and it was a disaster because the midfield got run over, but if we tried a 3-5-2 (or a 3-4-1-2 in possession) it could work really well as we'd win more midfield battles, allow a strike partnership up top to flourish, while also being solid at the back.

The biggest requirement is to have two wingbacks that are quality (since they are the ones who will need to do the most running) which we do in Andy Lyons and Jordan Gabriel.

Not for me. Boring to watch. Would rather see wingers attack.

No yates or lavery. But they are here. It looks like a 3142 as the holding midfielder is so deep. Looks like it’ll be between trybull and norburn there.

Thompson left and Lyons right while Gabriel injured is two very decent wing backs.
