Speed camera

Not to be boring but officially you can be fined for warning posts such as this.

Maybe point out something scenic close by and post a picture including the van.

I wish theyd deploy one on my road. Theyd make a fortune from the late mums taking their kids to school in the morning, and the boy racers in the evening.

But that might involve the police in some work.

There is a pretence that it is helping to reduce people speeding but it is all about revenue. I have been in Council meetings where councillors have discussed reducing speed limits and putting in cameras just for the projected revenue.

These people calling for 20 mph speed limits know it’s almost impossible to drive any distance at that speed and cameras and fines will soon follow.

Nope, if you search online the two are not the same. "In practice, police may take a considered view of the offence given that the rough locations of mobile speed cameras are often publicised in advance. "

Flashing lights or posting on social media can be classed as "in breach of section 89 of the Police Act 1997, designed to penalise anyone who "wilfully obstructs" a constable in the execution of his or her duty. " See above though.

Difficult to obstruct someone already hiding behind a bush or a bus shelter. 😁

Maybe it’s just reporting suspicious behaviour 😏

That would odd for the councillors to say considering they don't get the money, it all goes to Central Government

I am not sure that was true. When Staffordshire was infamous for its very high number of speed cams on A-roads in the 90s and 00s it was said they were funded by a large reduction in local M-way police patrols as there was a large net positive rise in council budget as a result. The police are funded through local council rates. Of course, that could all have changed, since Staffs cameras have decreased now.

I do know for sure that Bus Lane cameras are run by the local council who receive the fines. However, for a speed camera offence you get a police letter for a traffic offence. But if you get the option of a Speed Awareness course, these are locally arranged and I believe the revenue goes to local government.

Important work by rozzers this.

Don’t want people doing 34 in a 30, it might lead to them gatewaying into burglary, violent crime or sexual deviance - these are crimes the police can’t cover.

It is true. https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2017-09-06/HL1382

I can't speak to what was being said about Staffordshire in the 1990s or the history of where the income goes, but it certainly goes into central government now and has done for years.
