Only one male footballer has won in the last 20 years (Ryan Giggs), but, blow me, Beth Mead wins last year and Mary Earps is favourite to win tonight. They're obviously better candidates than say Harry Kane or Jude Bellingham. The SPOTY award is awful but the rest of the programme is entertaining.
 
100% I'm watching it, love it.
Hopefully Lineker gets a lifetime achievement award, he deserves it more than any other living sports person.
 
Earps wins .. Nike will be rubbing their hands with glee despite their obvious cock up (for want of a better expression!)
 
I have watched SPOTY every year since I can remember.
Started watching last night but turned it off.
It's now an agenda driven box ticking exercise that has let politics and woke take over.
When that woman (can't even remember her name she's such a poor presenter) harped on about opening doors for women and that Spanish bloke kissing that lady footballer, even my missus said "I'm sick of this rubbish, she doesn't speak for me, it's as though we all have to tor the line but to what all the left wing lezzers have to say".
And then Fatima Whitbread started with he politically driven tirade about children in care, going on and on....she can fuck off.
I have every sympathy for children in care and in most cases it's not their fault they are there but this is a TV programme that is there to celebrate SPORT in the UK, not a platform for people to spout their politics....I won't be watching it again. Utter utter bile.
 
Sports personality of the year. Give me a break if she walked in any bar, shop or office dressed in normal clothes 99% of people wouldn’t recognise her. Come to that she could wear her kit and 99% still wouldn’t have a clue. Absolute nonsense and pointless virtue signalling programmes like this are why viewing figures are crap, will no doubt be quietly shelved like football focus, people can see right through it.

Didn't watch it but whoever styled her on the night wants shooting, to then see Sir Kenny Dalglish receiving his life time achievement award on Twitter this morning with an outstanding speech shows how far standards have dropped with this award.

Well seeing as it was a public vote the 1% remaining who would have known who she was must have voted alot!! Mary Earps is incredibly well known, if you aren't interested then fine, but the highest share of the viewing voting public obviously were. She's a massive role model for many . Be unapologetically yourself of course, just like Mearps

It's not about a dislike of women by men, it's the complete opposite.
And it's being pushed in every part of society.
Is it any wonder men are committing suicide at alarming rates?

I'm all for women doing well in everything in life. I have a wife, two daughters and a mum who singlehandedly ran her own full time business employing 6 people, whilst bringing my sister and myself up as a single parent.
My sister is a director of a pan European company employing over 50,000 people.

The fact is men are being put down by women because they are men.....the exact thing that women's rights has campaigned for women for time in memoriam.
There is no one banging a drum for men....
 
well done to her on winning the award but is it an ego thing saying she wants to "change the world"? Think she needs to lower her expectations somewhat.
 
It’s amazing how she won via a National, open vote… yet folk put it down to some tofu eating wokery thang..? So what if some bod off a Blackpool forum wouldn’t recognise her ‘in the pub’ (the bastion of uber maniliness of course…), thousands of girls inspired by her do recognise her. Weird state of affairs that in 2023 a lot of men are foaming at the mouth about it. Sad really.
