St. George’s day

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

The surreal annual spectacle of English nationalists wanking over a Greek/Turkish mercenary soldier who served in the Roman Army. :)
Most patriotic songs, stories and traditions are built on myths. It doesn't per se make them bad, just in the hands of thoughtless or nasty people.

The Welsh,the Irish and the Scots all celebrate their patron saint and quite rightly so but some mealy mouthed on here won’t when it comes to Englands…we’ll fine but I will….proud to be English and British and why not.
No they don't only the Irish celebrate it properly forget the Welsh and Scottish it passes by with a whimper.

You clearly don’t know anything about the Welsh in particular in that case…..getting pissed up isn’t necessarily a sign of celebrating….but perhaps it is in 😉 some peoples mind

6 October. St Crispins Day, I believe

Doesn’t even come up on the iPhone calendar?
Well it’s on my printed calendar…with nice pictures of our wonderful British Flowers.😉…month by month.

….mind you it is printed in China….courtesy of “ The Works”.

It’s also tomorrow Shakespeare Day and the Last Day of the Passover by the way….now the former I can well do without celebrating as at school studying his works ( in English Literature Classes) was only slightly better than any poetry when asked to comment on “ what do you think the poet is trying to tell us…as if I cared😉.

Having said that I have a very dear friend who absolutely loves Shakespeare and was until Covid struck a very regular visitor to Stratford for goodness knows how many years( she will be 75 this June) to the RS Theatre ….and believe me she could recite every single play word for word if asked to….she is a Silver Patron of said Theatre….hopefully she will be back there soon…

..oh and we, that’s me and my wife once spent the Passover in Haifa which was an interesting experience …Haifa by the way is a wonderful city…a lot more multi cultural and multi religious than you might expect.

No not at all, just get a bit wound up now and again with the MODS posting shit and claiming anonymity. But I’m ok and relaxed, watching a bit of TV with a nice glass of wine. What about you ?
Good to hear 👍 as you do appear to appear to be overly tetchy at times.

Me? I'm just enjoying a few Belgian beers ahead of a busy weekend.

What a wonderful English species we have here in the purple headed lesser spotted vein bulger. A true joy to the heritage of this country, lovely to see.

It's good to have such a man of culture on the Board.

Always a celebration for me as it’s my daughters birthday 🥰
I really can‘t understand why anyone gets their knickers in a twist over this. Wave your flag or don’t wave your flag but live and let live . 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Hope you and your daughter have a great day... especially if the mighty slay the hatters.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Funny isn’t it,if it was St. Patricks day, it would be all over TV and pubs in England would be decorated with Irish stuff. I lived in Wales for a time and St. David’s day if pretty big there, but here - St. George’s day has never been a thing.
