State Opening of Parliament

Whatever we think about politicians the state opening shown on BBC with impressive Huw was amazing. The Americans must be impressed by all that history and ceremony in a wonderful building. Brilliantly organised by the Duke of Norfolk. Charles 3rd did a good job as well. We should be proud to be British. Boris and Sir Keer walked through chatting and am sure Boris asked "being to any good parties recently!!"

Do we really think Charles will keep his name when he accedes to the throne?

The Monarchy is in a fragile position. Is having another Charles not just asking for trouble?

Is it right, that in a time when people are riding on buses all day to keep warm because they can't afford to put the heating on, that a hat gets its own limousine to travel 2 miles to Parliament, and for the man in the car behind announce that the Government can't afford to help with those bills?

As for the Sun's front page headline today. How disturbing is that?

Is it right when people are riding on buses all day to keep warm etc that here we are talking about all the far flung places we are going on our holidays? Life goes on Wiz. As I was saying about the loony left.

I watched the speech and Charles seemed to read it in such an incredulous manner I half expected him to finish with "who writes this shit?" 🙂

I heard, many years ago, that Charles may take the regnal name George VII on his accession to the throne.

I agree that Charles' expression said it all I just thought the spectacle was amazing but the big flaw was that the standard of politicians of ALL parties is poor

But we know most of that is BS, don't we. They can find the money when they think it is necessary, especially for abroad.

So there's no 'Loonies' on the Right?
Have you watched Parliament recently?
I watch it regularly.
mmmm.... not my point at all. It's generally the loony left who are anti monarchy. The State opening of Parliament is all about tradition, history, pomp and circumstance. A Royal occasion.

I think Charles is OK. Leave him alone, don't make him King. Just let him potter around in his palaces and vast acreages that he didn't earn.

Why would you give a toss what the Americans, or any other foreigner thinks?

Almost 100% of Americans and all other types of foreigner will never see the opening of Parliament.

You do know that a big part of the ceremony is the Commons banging the door shut in the face of the Monarch's representative? It celebrates the sovereignty of the people over absolute monarchy.
