Sterling

Thought he was poor at right back. Not comfortable enough on the ball and we saw the different when Gabriel came on. Will give Sterling credit for his stunt at LB. I thought he looked solid there. A game of two halves IMHO.

He showed potential in the first half, working the right side of the pitch with Bowler and Lavery. That looks a good set up. Needed Yates in the middle though for it to pay off.
Agree that his play was more rounded in the second half.

Gabriel and Bowler have a better understanding. Might be confidence with Sterling but second half he had their right sided attacked on toast.

The quality is starting to show with this lad now he’s playing regular. Big Gaz man of the match, for his cut above bit of clam under pressure that led to the goal and because he is Gary Goals the magic man.

Hilarious comment gaz mom ?if that's not a joke there's something seriously wrong in how some people view things and are Rob far better watching women's football clueless isn't a strong enough word

Our first choice right back by miles! Gabriel is a good league 1 right back and an alright championship player but Sterling is another level. Still young, destined for the prem (unlikely at Chelsea though)

I must have been watching a different game. I think he has played well in the last few games , but was back to his usual self today. Hardly won anything in the air, and where did the phrase "Gary Goals" come from ? because he's hardly scored any for us.

2nd half Madine was superb, he won most things in the air and his 2 touch lay off to CJ to set up the goal was sublime. You only have to listen to Lavery's after match interview on Lancs to see what he thinks Madine brings to the team.

As for Dujon Sterling, he will be some player and must start at left back next week with Gabriel on the right.

His best game in tangerine today. Looked assured in both positions.
Agreed , he had two particularly fabulous moments - in the first half when he shot across behind our back line to make a sliding last ditched tackle and late in the second half at left back when he outsprinted Olli Burke in the corner to tackle and clear the ball into touch. He was more physical and committed also.

Given he was playing in an unfamiliar position that last 20 minutes, plus looking knackered, he kept going and did well.

I have to mention the foul on Garbutt that made Sterling left back. A late push off the pitch that the ref completely ignored. Hope Garbs recovers.

Dujons been good since we signed him. In my opinion. I didn't watch the Hartlepool game but that was just a dog's breakfast day by the sound of it, all over the pitch.

Sterling is an excellent defender, but his touch and ability on the ball is not great. But I’d take great defending over great passing from defenders every time.

I’d have given Keogh MOTM but no qualms with Bowler getting it either.

I'd throw Kenny Dougall in there for a MOM nomination as well he really is doing a good job for us in that midfield
