Steve Smith is at it again

Safe to say he has no issues with ‘bending’ and often openly flaunting the rules.
I’d say this is ungentlemanly conduct rather than real rule breaking but either way, it doesn’t look good

Its must be in the name Jazz

I'm just re-reading Ather's book and his explanation for the pocket full of dust is quite persuasive

He just thinks he is being just a bit clever, thinking ahead of the curve and all that. Its that "look at me fellas and how clever I am" then "oh shit I'm on camera and everyone thinks I'm a nob..again" moment.

Two things work on their tracks, real pace and turn, swing goes after ten or twelve overs. So, guess what kind of bowlers they produce.

What a knobhead.

Can't see the point of doing that apart from winding the batsman up. The Indians were playing out for a draw so was only wasting the Aussies time as the batsman then had to take guard again .... if I had been batting I would have taken a good few minutes re-marking my crease.

Why would he do that other than to cheat the batsman. Utterly disgraceful.

Being dishonest cheats seems to be in the Aussie's DNA....................oh hang on a minute, could be onto something here........

It's almost as if their core DNA comes through from convicts.

Nature or nurture? Think weve solved that one.

Ah look. Smiffy wasn't doing it behind anyone's back, he knew it would be on camera and be seen by the Indian batter. Pant(?) went straight back and re took his guard.

More a bit of banter that perhaps touched on ungentlemanly behaviour, nothing more than.

What would England do in the same game situation? Seriously, say nothing, do nothing? Not an effin chance.

At least Smiffy was open.

Anyway, I'm off for a Victoria tinny and put a shrimp an me barbie.

Some pretty brutal sledging going on. I’m not too fussed about that but wouldnt you think smith would of learned his lesson after the last debacle.

I’m surprised the umpires didn’t ask him what he was doing.
Sledging is, and always has been, part of the game but cheating is certainly not sportsman like.
Smith cried like a baby when he was caught out last time and if he is stupid enough to “cheat” again, or do something that will draw attention to himself then he is a complete toss pot.

I've never understood this "he behaved like a **, but as he was overt about it that makes it somehow alright" school of thought.
Simple really. He wasn't trying to deceive. He has before. Atherton has before, yet Atherton has 2 great jobs and never gets slagged for his 'out caught' misdemeanour.

Sick of all the hippo's. The same 'we won. the ref was ace, we lost the ref was crap' brigade. Just be objective (not you BRR2).

The big difference here though is that Smith cheated, got found out (and rightly punished) , then holds a press conference where he blubbered like baby (it was pathetic in all honesty).
Swears he made a massive mistake and made a grovelling apology and now he is at it again.
Ok, he has only scuffed at the wicket, bt why do it in the first place.
Lots of players cheat (especially footballers) if they think they can get an advantage and sadly the term “sportsman” appears not to be in the vocabulary of quite a few nowadays.

Cheat or just plain thick ?
Using sand ( yellowish) paper on a red cricket ball. Then as someone has pointed out, rubbing away a batsmans markings, with the stump cam a couple of feet away !
If you're going to cheat, try and make sure you have a sound plan !!

He was trying to get in the head of the Indian player. He was not seeking a playing advantage.

Storm in a tea cup.

It's a real shame people put pre-conceptions before logic.

The Indian player should have just given him a swift kick in the bollocks and said " ok you won you're in my head "
All new Australia under Langer, not trying to get a playing advantage, just trying to get in people's heads.
WBA keeper tried it on Gary goals, just got a wink and a ** from the big man.

Anyone elses past misdemeanours are irrellevant. And it's the Indian media that are furious about him yet again for being a contemptuous little ratface doing anything he can to win.

He's an absolute genius with the bat and he has no reason at all to behave like this.

He deserves all the now global pasting he's getting and I would expect cricket Australia to be wincing at his actions.

Also, his Dad is Australian and his Mum is English; in fact he has dual citizenship and did all his early 'cricketing' in England and could have played for England..

But I guess his convict genes came out!🤣

Don't see what all the fuss is about. It's gamesmanship. If England played Portugal or Argentina in the WC Final and we wound up Ronaldo or Messi to the point where they retaliated and got sent off, would we be disgusted at how we had acted?

He hasn't claimed an obvious bump ball as a catch, deliberately damaged the ball (this time...) or even not walked after a clear edge. He was trying to unsettle the batsman. It didn't work. He got caught and looks a prick. End of.

To me you’ve missed the point, nobody is on about any other players misdemeanours (major or otherwise) as said before look he’s a great player but by the look of it he’s a serial cheat and had let himself down massively. He should take responsibility for his actions.

IMO the fact that he has been caught cheating before will put him under the microscope for any poor behaviour on the field (does he deserve it YES I believe he does) it doesn’t sit right with me gamesmanship, two occasions spring to my mind, broad not walking when clearly edged and when we spangle the ball into the practice pitches to scuff it up to aid reverse swing. Winding players up and sledging within reason is fine but deliberately scratching out someone’s guard is just been a prick. Like others have said I wonder how he’d like it if someone did that to his guard? Don’t suppose he’d just accept it would he?

Gamesmanship by definition is using psychological means to get the upper hand. Scrubbing out a batsman's guard markings is a physical act of diversion as well as scuffing up the crease line in order to try and gain the upper hand is better known as cheating. Petty and petulant yes, but cheating all the same.

Yeah I just read that, I know you protect your own but looks like it’s going to make the whole situation worse.
