Steve Thompson

Why would we want him back?
He has been at Preston for many years, which is a negative. During his team there he was support/influence to a good number of managers/coaches at a club which had plenty of money and decent facilities thrown at it by the owner, but as we happily know well they had pretty much zero success.
So what does his track record suggest that make people want him?
He is supposed to be a nice guy and have the ear of the players who from what I have heard feel able to talk to him when they feel they have not been well treated. Great when you need a foil for a tough hard manager, but Critchley would appear to be a good man manager and have players who are comfortable talking to him. So what does an ex nobber bring to the table?

It's ok to go back if it's someone suitable to fill a role you need filling. And if everyone at the club thinks he's who they want then it's frankly daft if folk object to it on the grounds he's been at Preston.

My own view, for what it's worth, is a yes. I can only go off what I read here, but apparently he spent more time with the players day to day than Holloway did? And IH MK2 was very possession based, similar to what we're striving for now? And Thommo was a huge part of the daily work with the squad to achieve that.

If all parties are up for it, sounds good to me.

Interesting take but as a life long nobber I see things differentmy. In that time with ST part of coaching set up we took on players like Hugill (25k from Port Vale, sold for £10m), Davies gone from youth to very good player & PL move, Robinson, Pearson going from young potential to genuine top Championship/PL players.

Our success hasn't been great on paper but 'relatively' it has based on our lack of financial investment compared to others etc.

I'm a realist & just getting back up to championship was tough never mind developing a competent championship squad.

In my view he's clearly a good coach & done some top stuff for us. I genuinely wish him all the best if ends up with you or any club for that matter.

Up the whites!

Beginning to turn into a sort of, 'I am Spartacus', thread this.
Never went to Warbreck me, I was an Alder Grange lad over in that thar Rawtenstall before we emigrated to the Shetland Islands 😁

Bet Crainey at Fleetwood will be on the blower to him.

Come on Simon / Critch let's get Thommo signed up

Top lad and his love for BFC never left him, football is his profession so you go where the wages are, Koko showed him the door along with Ince so Preston was a good fit for him alongside Grayson.

Once Trevor Hemmings passed away it was inevitable Thommo would be leaving as he has also had issues at home with a family illness, TH rewarded his loyalty for not going to Sunderland with Larry by giving him a job as long as he wanted one.

I did a thread on this a few weeks back. I would 100% bring him back. Great experience, knows and loves the club. No brainer!!!!

Don’t think he worked for Rigby?

Was the sacking a typical weird Kokism? Seem to remember he was summonsed to Quernmore, plonked in a room for ages, then Koko sent a lackie in to pull the trigger?
Treated like crap anyhow.
