Steve Thompson

Do we know Critch would want Thommo ? There is no link between the two as far as I know. There has to be a working relationship/ understanding/ energy between coach and assistant which is why they usually bring someone they know and trust.

I don't think Critchley knew McCall. I remember reading that they didn't know each other, but Critchley invited him in for a chat and they offered him the role after that.

The above is very true in probably 95% of appointments, though didn't the penny pinching O's make Holloway accept a stranger as his assistant (in Steve Thompson) and as Thompson was still on the pay roll, they probably didn't want to pay his contract off?

And look how that turned out!

I know for a fact Critchley was offered Thompson as an assistant first time around but felt he didn’t need the support at the time and wanted his own men if it got to it. By all accounts it wasn’t a case of being difficult, just preference and there was no disrespect.

He doesn’t have to be his no2, bring him in to support the coaching team, just have him around the place, I’m sure they can come up with a title. He wouldn’t cost a fortune and he would bring experience, enthusiasm and passion. Really is a no brainer.

SS is calling the shots this time I think just because Dobs was asked what he would like to do if he wasn't chosen.

Do it the way football is supposed to happen.

I've no idea whether they have or haven't, but your statement could be true but Blackpool still be working to bring him home.

Hope so.loves the club,would be a great number 2 for Critch.
 
Critch will decide and he did pretty well with Calderwood and McCall. The fact is that there are people like them who will come and work as no.2 for us because it gives them access to Critch's training methods which were heavily influenced by Klopp at Melwood. It's one of the Critch advantages.

Both McCall and Calderwood helped to get teams promoted this season! Heckingbottom to McCall - so what does Critchley do then? What's the Liverpool thing?

I’m guessing you know Steve Thompson and I would also guess that SS may know ST because they were in the same year together at Warbreck, the year below me, and if that is the case then I would imagine some dialogue would have taken place well before now.

Edit to say if you doo know ST, ST, I wouldn’t expect you to say so on here

I know someone very close to him that’s all I’ll say😄and the reason I’m convinced no recent contact has been made is because I asked the exact question literally a few days ago and was told no.obviously things can change and on this one I hope it does because having him around the club again can only be a positive imo.

Fairly sure Thommo is a few years older than SS, so very unlikely they were mates at school.
 
People moaning about us going back to ex managers but wanting another ex staff member to come back? Can't have it both ways.

Normal football clubs allow the manager to pick his own assistant. Why would Critch pick someone he has no knowledge on or hasn't, to my knowledge, ever worked with before, and who probably shares a very different vision to him. Critch does not need to bring in ST to appease some whinging fans. Entitled if you think he does.

Critchley doesn’t have that much managerial experience himself, how many top guys has he worked with that are available, not many I would say. Gerrard is but Klopp isn’t.
