Sad there's no thread about Steve Wright. Massive part of my growing up years. There for all the big news stories and announcements. Made me laugh, made me throw my radio against the wall (serious jockin' indeed) but was always my go to, RIP .. loved the show Wrighty.

yes the thread is in the RIP section. I reckon people don't generally look on that part of the board so even I was surprised at first when I didn't see one.in the two main boards. For me, i think it would be best if it was in one of the two main boards either AVFTT or OT and then moved over to the RIP section at a later date when it's clear that there are no more comments.

Not so much "lost" as "dumped" by the new Radio 2 management, according to fellow elderly DJs, in a bid to rejuvenate the station's roster. He was side-lined from his weekday afternoon show 18 months ago and did not take it well, apparently. One of his colleagues described them all as being treated recently like "tins of baked beans on a shelf". Oh well, I guess everyone has to retire eventually, but to go on your own terms is the best for mental health.

His own brother reckons that’s tripe. He said Steve wasn’t right chuffed but also said that in honesty he needed the rest

He was probably the most talented radio presenter of his generation and, sadly, he didn't get to choose how he left his show. It reminds me of
Benny Hill when he was sacked, and he only lived for a couple more years before dying alone. Both men were loved by the public, but
despite this, they lived very lonely lives away from work which probably contributed to their early deaths.

Steve was brilliant in the 80s I've got great secondary school memories of him in that era. I confess I'd actively stopped listening to him on radio 2 I'd got bored of his posse and factoids etc and I thought the BBC had got it right by calling a day on his show. RIP Steve you were a pioneer back in the day.

I know there's been a lot BBC bashing about this but they did a lovely tribute to Steve recorded at the Maida Vale studio with the BBC concert orchestra playing his radio theme. It was quite touching and the kind of thing that only the BBC would do.
