Stewards and searching

I suppose they have to search people because of all the tits with flares and bits of stuff they keep throwing on the pitch.
Personally I don't object. It takes 20 seconds, if that and you're on your way.
If you've nothing to hide and it's stopping the club from getting fined, I would guess the club is still on a warning, then I honestly don't see a problem.
How does everyone feel when they're at the MEN arena or the airport ?
Never seen anything thrown on from the south or west

Women? He’s mentioned one woman and one big lump……. get your facts right if you want to try and put someone down 🙄
It's not the first time he's called her out though, is it?

Maybe he's not misogynistic at all then and just has problems with people in positions of authority. His profile picture would suggest as much.

Some interesting responses here, and elsewhere.
I expected the comedy efforts.
I expected the “they are allowed to do it, if you’ve nothing to hide what’s the problem”

I’ve had one woman in her sixties almost in tears after being “embarrasingly” thoroughly searched in front of her grandkids. I’ve had a bloke in his seventies forced to empty all his pockets on a freezing cold day.
And there are people who really don’t like being touched for a wide range of personal private reasons.
And I’ve had other people just walzing through.

This is an important issue. Again, please leave me a Direct Message if you can.
If you don’t think this is serious, then I would politely request that you keep your thoughts to yourself and stop belittling those for whom this is important.

The woman on the gate immediately north of the main entrance in the west asked my dad and I to empty our pockets to which we said no. She just said okay and we walked in.

Not fielded that request from a steward before, though also can't remember the gate steward being female, so maybe it's to do with one gender not being allowed to frisk someone from the opposite gender?

Either way, not really bothered. The gate stewards are always good-spirited and helpful in my experience - especially with the introduction of the recent e-ticketing system.

I had a backpack with my travel clothes in (non tangerine for Huddersfield and Bradford) and my coat had two poachers pockets with my wallet and phone in , I always open my bag for them to see in, and was given a quick frisk by an older bloke. I personally cannot see any problem. Nothing to hide, nothing to worry about.
So did you get your smoke bombs in?

Interesting thread really when you consider the amount of uproar it causes when someone throws a flare or, worse still, someone gets stabbed inside a ground.
Immediate response is “How the fcuk did they manage to get that in the ground” and I’m sure you anti searchers would have a totally different outlook if you or a member of your family suffered serious injury due to something “smuggled” into the ground.
If you have nothing to hide why on earth object to a 15 second fleece?
I have no objection to being searched, but the point I was making earlier was that the way I was frisked was ridiculous. He was about 6foot 3 and built like a brick sh1thouse, and he barely touched me. I could easily have got something banned into the ground. it's all to tick boxes forbade FA!!!

It's a condition of entry. Same with a night club or pub with door staff. Not saying they should or shouldn't be searching fans btw but that's the legal basis for it. The venue is under their control and a condition of entry is that you have to be searched. It's absolutely your right to deny the search but it'd also be their right to deny entry if you did.

It's also at their discretion who is and isn't searched.
I don’t think just saying a condition of entry permits actual physical intimate contact? I cannot fathom a legal basis for it at all. Not saying there shouldn’t be such in certain circumstances, but I cannot legally see what gives anyone the right to say ‘before you come in here, I am oputting my hand up your leg’.

Yes it's purely a box ticking exercise as some actual searchers wouldn't have found anything.

Although I'm sure different stewards do it differently at times.

People sneaking in something they don't want found enough will put them in areas they aren't allowed to touch anyway, so it won't stop it.

Excuse me...who the hell are you to tell folk to keep their thoughts to themselves?

EVERYBODY is entitled an opinion.

I'm 70 in March still get searched regularly in south despite no bags.
( apart from under my eyes)
Must look like a hooligan with hidden flares down my pants!
Crazy!

I was searched on the way into the South...I told them it was ridiculous but they were intent on doing it...never been issues with smoke bombs/flares in the South...not needed in my opinion

The lad who frisked me looked reluctant. To be fair he looked at my gut and assumed I was sneaking in a ball or tin of party 7.

Me either but I suppose they can't discriminate and as we're not a party to what the EFL have threatened the club with and also what they have asked the club to do to combat the problems I suppose we just have to go along with it.

What people must remember though is that the club is having to implement these sanctions not because it wants to but because one or two idiots take the 'ultra' label too far.
I'm not sure how much money the club has paid in fines but it's certainly in the 10s of thousands of pounds which could be spent on anything that is better than a fine because of some tvvat acting like a c0ck.

How times change . In1974 you wore flares not throw them. Club would be screwed if someone was injured by a flare or any object, so they have to cover themselves legally.

You are missing the point. There are an important minority of people who present no threat whatsoever but have personal difficulties- for instance, a stoma, a hidden disability such as autism, frailty etc. Would you want someone digging round your stoma, Or frightening your child who for whatever reason finds the process upsetting? Or patting your mum or your grandma down? The club is definitely in the cross hairs of the powers that be and will need to be seen to be acting appropriately, but the key word there is appropriately. Stewards can have a challenging job but they also deserve to and should be adequately briefed and trained to exercise sensible discretion. I may have missed some communication from the club as to the rationale behind this focus on relatively low risk areas, but it feels like some explanation in advance and some discretion and proportionality would have helped.

Because it’s a serious subject, some people are very distressed, yet others still think it’s a joke.
If you want everyone to think you’re an insensitive thoughtless fool, carry on.

So long as the flares are down the front or back of your pants you are OK. They only search the sides.🤣🤣

If you're getting "intimately" touched then that's a different issue but yes, legally speaking, they can physically search you as a condition of entry.

Is that a flare in your pocket or are you just thinking of Albie Morgan's first goal?

Nothing insensitive at all. Just stated a fact that everyone is entitled to an opinion on the subject. I didn't actually give mine.

Lots of insensitive jokes made by others who you don't question. Tells me all I need to know.

There was some great work being done too.

What is the legal basis? That is my question.
It'll be part of the clubs search policy which probably forms part of their licensing application. It's a 'condition of entry'. Premises can enforce 'conditions of entry' on people attending. You can refuse but it's their right to then refuse you entry.

There's not a specific law that grants them powers of search otherwise you could be searched even if you refused, which you can't. You're effectively volunteering/allowing to be searched in order to gain entry to their premises.

Recently went to the Las Vegas F1 - Stands were Packed yet there was no searches other than bags and rucksacks and a walk through a metal detector/airport security type device - I get the Search of Bags & Rucksacks but leave the caps on the bloody plastic bottles and leave us alone .. Nothing to hide just really annoys me that the club want me to submit to have a half hearted attempted pat down by an 18 year old scrote doing a Saturday job....

I'd argue with a copper over a search never mind an 18 year old in a High Viz on £10 an hour ..

I didn’t single any individual out. You are the only person who has taken offence at my polite request to keep this thread serious.

Anyone have any issues with stewarding and searching at the turnstiles today? If so, please DM me.

Thanks
Funny that when the young girl approached me after frisking the old men in the queue I just stood still and didn’t say a word, just kind of stared in astonishment at her.

She just stopped and said ok if you’ve nothing in your pockets just go in. Didn’t make any sense to me?

I was wondering if it was a reciprocal thing. She would frisk me a bit, I would frisk her a bit??
We’re you feeling a bit frisky?

No sign of anyone doing searches when I went through circa 2.40ish
i was only about five minutes before that. Was a guy doing it on 7 and a woman on 8. Maybe the queuew were starting to build up then. When we fot there it was a queue of just about ten on each.

Queue was certainly longer than that. Perhaps 25+ in each. Only hold up being phones not reading “tickets” for one or two.

FWIW

I'm 51, generally attend with my 20 & 14 year olds and I get frisked at every game I attend home and away.

So does 20 year old.

14 year old doesn't; and at Burton they portrait asked how old he was, when I said 14, they said fine off you go.

I just expect it. It's part and parcel of life.

However, I don't have any concerns about being touched.

And the point that there are some people who do shouldn't be diminished.

Edit to add:

My eldest joined the police force quite recently as is going through his training.

He laughs at the quality of the searches.

He also says that in their training, they are trained to search men and women properly; and practice on each other. I suppose it is too get over the uncomfortableness of it all.

A ball ache you will get at every football stadium in the country. You keep whining about it and it's getting pretty boring.
Barnsley, Port Vale, Barrow this season, purchased a bottle of coke / water all given to me with the lid intact.
Must look too old, or innocent, for bottle flinging..

Entering Bloomers West Stand- searched every time recently.
I've no issues being searched, but the quality of searching is absolutely shocking and undermines the whole purpose / point of doing it.
