Summer Transfer Rumours trois - Will Appy (re)sign anyone?

Doesn't look like there are going to be any deals with Sheff Wed. Anything can happen in the next 24 hours, but it's looking increasingly likely now that there might be no further incomings. The big question now is Bowler - at least the club haven't given in to the "drip-feed" bidding approach from Forest. The danger now is that he is snapped up for £4m at the 11th hour, and we are left high and dry with a healthy bank balance but a shortage of new players coming in.

Appleton's honesty is a two edged sword. Talking about whether Bowler will leave he tells us in one sentence that his aim is survival and that survival will be really difficult without Josh. Where's his confidence? How do you motivate players if you think like that?

"It's going to be a big 24 hours for the football club, if he stays, we've got a fantastic chance of making sure we retain our status, if he goes it makes it doubly difficult."

It sends a message to the rest of the squad and to the fans that we should prepare for relegation. And prophecies like that are often self fulfilling. Critch's alleged 'dishonesty' was an avoidance of doing that.

Thought the same thing.

As much as we all agree it’s probably true, I don’t want to hear our manager say that, and I doubt the rest of the squad want to hear their manager believes Bowler is effectively carrying them.

Bad interview IMO.

I disagree, it was more a broadside at the board. I'm pretty sure the players know how important Josh is to the squad and that they need a couple of players in to be more competitive at this level.

Agree not exactly a hype man for the club but that's the bed the board and Sadler has decided to lie in for four years and I'd rather have honesty than bullshit.

Can’t believe we have let Forest piss about with shit bids for months and then let them have their way final day when we are unlikely to be able to spend the money, should of told them where to shove it for waiting until the mast day of the window before making a proper bid

Povada ideal replacement
He does seem like that but he plays on the other side and is only a loan, surely we can’t sell bowler and then not buy anyone today, we are already thin on the ground and don’t look a threat without bowler

Poveda can play on the other side, but he's a left footer who played down the right last night, just like Bowler. Corbeanu is the same, albeit a different style of player. I think they've been brought in to replace Bowler.

We can’t sensibly turn down 4 million for a player we will lose for free in 9 months or so

Well looks like the worst outcome for us all this morning is about to happen, bowler leaving and fuck all coming in, hope they pull something out the bag last minute but the fact there isn’t even any rumours other than a kid from brighton it doesn’t look good. ** incompetence at its finest, try and stay positive but we are already lacking in attacking quality/midfield quality and just lost our best attacker, really don’t understand the clubs transfer plans this window at all, a load of loans (short term solutions) and leaving ourselves massively short in a number of positions 🤷🏼‍♂️

Don’t worry about lack of rumours. Rumours are not what we need. Most of our signings come from nowhere anyway.

At this rate, we'll be needing a new manager, Appleton isn't one for being p1ssed about as we know full well. Hopefully Mansford has finished playing golf and can pop by Bloomfield Road to see what scraps are about.

Do the club want to spend the money? I think not!

They have known Bowler was likely to leave, so if they had wanted to spend some of the money they would surely have had players lined up!!?
I think they have no intention of spending any IMHO. This is beginning to look like the transfer window that sends us down. One permanent signing for the first team does not look good.

Honestly blags my head how badly they have fucked up this transfer window, not expecting bucket loads of cash to be spent but 1 permanent signing is ridiculous, really worried about the next few months now with our current injury issues and lets be honest we wont sign fuck all in january either

On the right player/s they absolutely do want to re invest any incoming transfer money,
What are the right players? Are they looking for a Harry Kane for a fee of £500,000 and 5k a week. If so they will hang onto the money for a long time. Seriously there must be some around who suit, we aren’t the only team in the championship with a small budget. Luton are in the same boat and they seem to manage.
