Swansea v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 15.02.23

Poveda has to start. He’s class. He holds the ball so well and sees a pass. He’s a step above everyone else. Grimmy back too instead of the clown in nets who flatters to deceive week after week.

i cant fault the effort. but we were all over the place first half. not once did we get jerry on the ball. I like CJ but he had an absolute mare today. Bowler is just a liability at the moment. how many times did he give the ball away. Jerry ran his bollocks off again, fantastic assist for the goal but really well worked by a 5 or six players.

Poveda and rogers came on and their energy immediately started making swansea make mistakes. Poveda is everything that Bowler isnt. he chaces everything like a rabid terrier. and rogers brings a physicality that CJ just doesnt have. unfortunatel for connolly, he had to make contact as there was a swansea player behind him, but very poor communication in the defence. patino is generally a bit of a clumsy tackler, which is why i dont understand why two managers keep playing him in a defensive role.

the writing was on the wall for the sending off from the second minute, when a swansea player deliberately pulled back Carey and the ref gave a free kick but no card yet had felt justified in giving connolly a card for im not sure what.

Grimshaw
Lyons Connolly Thornily Husband
Bowler Carey Dougall Rogers
Poveda
Yates

Just go for it, get your best players on pitch and get at teams, this is so frustrating watching a new manager making the same mistakes as the last one.

We finally started to play well the last half an hour, once (surprise, surprise) Mick allowed Poveda and Rogers on to the pitch! Genius!
Jerry finally had some support with him up top, and we looked a decent team for the last 30 minutes.
IF....thick Mick could change his ways, and JUST fukin PUT OUR BEST PLAYERS ON THE PITCH We might still have a small chance to beat the drop!

Maxwell
Connolly
Lyons
Husband
Patino
CJ
Madine

All league one quality. There should be no surprise.
You're a very half empty man, I can see that. Patino will become a decent Championship player. So will Lyons. Madine already has been and has a couple of years left in him at this level. Maxwell, Husband, Connolly and CJ, I'm less convinced. Carey needs support because I think he has a Championship future. Thornily most certainly does, as does Yates. Bowler can be a very good Championship player but not from where I sit, a Premiership player.

Patino is rubbish. He will end up in the lower leagues. Lyons gets caught out at least once every game. Madine is definitely not a Championship striker.

That is our issue. It’s full of League One standard players.

Lyons will develop. Madine is not a striker now but he is a Championship player.

I do wonder if we went for the short term option a bit too soon. Had there been only 5-10 games left in the season and we brought in MM then fair enough, but we had almost half a season?

Could we have appointed a manager that we believed in not only for this season but for beyond and backed them in the January transfer window instead of patching the side up with loans?

It's certainly been a mess of a season and seemed destined to be so ever since they made the Appleton appointment.

MM is far too stubborn to change.
We would have won that match with the best players on from the start, playing to our strengths.
Bullshít is another stubborn one. He‘s not going to admit to horrendously misjudging back-to-back managerial appointments,or even act swiftly to release the self-imposed handbrake on this team. So on that basis, we’re screwed.

No hope with McCarthy, go back to retirement Mick, you daft old fool. You definitely must have been a cheap alternative.

It beggars belief.
Who at the club thought MM would work and get us out of trouble?
It’s like leaving a pit bull in charge of a bunch of cats. Not going to end well.

A University friend of mine who I've kept in touch with is a Swansea season ticket holder. He texted me last night after the match:
"A tepid albeit tetchy affair - you're no worse than the Swans it would seem."
Just shows, we all have different perspectives.
