Switzerland threatened.

It would appear that the EU is at it again.

Switzerland, who have co-existed with the surrounding EU since its inception, and have seemingly had a reasonable agreement with the EU, pulled out of negotiations recently to renew and in some ways update their agreement with the EU due to their feeling that the demands of the EU were threatening their independence and right to be self-governing. It now appears that the EU has used the tactics the French have used in their fishing dispute with Jersey by threatening to cut electricity supplies to the Alpine nation unless they come back to the negotiating table. Totally unacceptable in my opinion.

This block is becoming more and more like the Germany of old, under Hitler, who wanted to be the major power in Europe and continue to harass and threaten everyone and anyone whom they can't control.

There's only 3 news outlets carrying this story, telegraph, the express and Bloomberg.

Based on timing i'm guessing curryman gets the telegraph delivered.

To compare the EU to Germany under Hitler do you no favours at all. Utterly ridiculous.

Try the internet and Bloomberg. I read both left, right, and foreign reports online when something catches my eye. I haven't had a paper delivered for around thirty years and haven't purchased one for around five years.

Yes. It’s not at all offensive to anyone who fought and died trying to defeat Nazi Germany or the millions who were slaughtered in the name of Nazi Germany’s final solution and quest for Ayran supremacy to consider there is a genuine similarity between the EU and the Third Reich.

It’s big news in Switzerland. I suspect the Swiss will be investing in creating some more hydro electric power plants in an effort to become self sufficient.🇨🇭👍

I suggest you read my post again, Nazi Germany wanted to be the major power in Europe, they wanted to expand their borders, and it was to the East where they looked, bullying such countries a Czechoslovakia, summoning their PM to Germany for an ultimatum, surrender or face the consequences, we are already on our way to take your capital city. The similarity being Switzerland being told to accept EU terms or lose its power. In no way did I intimate that slaughtering certain people was part of the deal.

So a threat of invasion and forced military rule is the equivalent of a negotiation about the power supply to a sovereign country?
Stop digging.
How does the EU want to expand their borders BTW?

I give up, it's useless dealing with the combined idiocy of those who read everything into a post, which doesn't exist, to suit their own agenda.

Oh, and I better hadn't mention that India has now become the latest nation to be upset by the EU over vaccinations.

I'm off for my shower. Play nicely, if that's possible.

nation's don't get upset, nations have interests. Politicians work to further those interests.

Journalists write stories that pander to their customers pre-formed ideas.

Characterising nations as petulant children is almost certainly not going to be accurate journalism.

Attempting to describe the EU as the lonely bully who no one will play with anymore, just suggests you've fallen for some pretty shoddy journalism.

Trust me Curryman they completely and deliberately miss the point of what your saying to suit their argument. The irony is they love a good Hitler/Nazi comparison when talking about any view even remotely right wing leaning.

Comparisons to Hitler and the Nazis are a staple part of the internet.

It's as silly when Curryman does it as when those on the Left accuse everyone of being 'far-right'.

EU was a Nazi ideal long before the 50s. Let’s not re-write history. Merkel is the dominant politician and Germany the dominant economic power. Of course people will make a connection . Bollocks of course to compare the two…

It was also a Winston Churchill idea, which makes it all a bit irrelevant.

It's not dominated by Germany, it's notable how the major countries don't dominate the EU in fact, you just have to look at the rebellious east European narrative to see that clearly.
It's not unreasonable to think that the UKs biggest gripe when in the EU was that they couldn't dominate it. Even when the UK had probably the most advantageous arrangement of any member state.

Nazi Germany isn't the only country in the world, or even in Europe to have done that, Nazi Germany is known for a lot worse than just intimidating other countries, which is why your comparison is daft - and does you no favors.

EU have asked Interpol to issue an arrest warrant for Swiss Toni. Apparently he has been on tour in the EU drinking all their beer and making love to their beautiful women.🇨🇭

Aside from the O/P's utterly ridiculous comparison (he clearly has a continual hatred of all things EU), what he should see is that Switzerland are exercising their free right to go it their own way. Now, as with Brexit, that comes at a cost. You cannot continue to enjoy the same benefits (in this case lower power costs due to sharing across EU countries) if you choose to no longer be in the club. So all it means now Switzerland want to do things independently, is that the Swiss need to now provision their power supplies independently. I am sure they are capable of that. It may mean higher costs for them, but if that's their prefered option, they will go with that.

This attitude of leaving the EU but expecting the same benefits to continue is incredibly naïve.

Cracks started to appear when we voted to leave.
Cracks getting bigger and bigger now that not even bodge job can fix.

I seem to remember one 'far left' poster on here comparing Boris Johnson to a Nazi. Name escapes me but something to do with feline rings a bell.

Something as big and complex as the EU cannot be all 'good'or 'bad'. My personal view, at the time of the Brexit referendum, was that it was based on a flawed concept, it is fundamentally undemocratic and was developing in a way no-one other than a few bureaucrats ever intended. I was convinced we were better off out.
Since then the way the EU behaved in reaching agreement with us, it's shoddy and inefficient response to the vaccine requirement and it's bullying approach to other nations make me more convinced that ever we did the right thing.
The main sentiment of the O/P was absolutely right despite being hijacked in the current mode of stifling debate by imposing interpretations which were never intended.

Is Curryman trying to compare the military domination of Nazi Germany or the political aspirations to control Europe?

I know it suited a lot of people in the UK to discuss nothing about the EU vaccine deployment apart from difficulties, but when you look at the figures for the EU the vaccination program is incredible

🙄 so why mention Hitler, you prick
Ok so I'm a prick am I? Your argument is lost as soon as you revert to name calling, which prompts the question, Recidivist is your name taken from your history? Just asking.

Dominance is dominance, achieved by different methods.
Thank goodness someone can see what I was suggesting. I could have used the word Stalin, who was just as big a murderer as was Hitler.

The point was that pre WW2 when the rise of the Nazi's was in full swing, and our Government along with other European Governments was appeasing both the Nazis in Germany and the Fascists in Italy, AH was busy planning the extension of land for the German people, firstly by taking back the lands that were removed from them, following The Treaty of Versailles, and then to move on to the lands west of the Urals, where most of their raw materials were sourced. If my history serves me correctly, Austria was the first country to be annexed, without a fight. Nothing was done to stop him, the international community stayed silent. Other areas such as the Sudetenland later became a major source of contention between Germany and Czechoslovakia. So much so that in 1938 participants at the Munich Conference yielded to AH and transferred it to Germany. These were the seeds that became the horror of WW2.

It would appear that the EU, although not using military force, are using similar tactics to try and secure a larger EU state, by using threats as their main weapon, knowing, for instance, that Switzerland is surrounded by EU members. I class this as a form of Blackmail. Presently they are using the threat of cutting the power off to Switzerland to bring them or should I say force them back to the negotiating table. What comes next? Closed borders? Closed airspace and so on? How would the Swiss survive?

In no way was the intention of using that monster's name in any way intended to include his horrendous crimes, but simply to identify the period of time I was referring to.

So there it is, and if you still believe in some way that I was condoning the crimes committed by the fascists, then I can only say you had better get your wish lists for Father Christmas ready or indeed get to sleep at night before Wee Willy Winky comes to get you!

And now
Switzerland chose not to further integrate, the EU IS TOAST

MEPs from 15 EU states joined forces yesterday to declare "resistance" against a European superstate stripping nations of their sovereignty bit by bit. The 'declaration of values' gave a stern warning to Brussels and unanimously pledged to form a new resistance against the creation of the United States of Europe in favour of more respect for sovereign nations. The declaration stated: "The use of political structures and law to create a European superstate and new forms of social structure is a manifestation of the dangerous and invasive social engineering of the past, which must prompt legitimate resistance".

Looks like the EU's resistance against the Commission's plans for a federal EU state with a federal EU army is slowly but surely gathering pace. The declaration went on to say

"The moralistic overactivity that we have seen in recent years in the EU institutions has resulted in a dangerous tendency to impose an ideological monopoly. All attempts to transform European institutions into bodies that take precedence over national constitutional institutions create chaos, undermine the sense of the treaties, question the fundamental role of Member States' constitutions, and the resulting disputes over competences are in effect settled by the brutal imposition of the will of politically stronger entities on weaker ones. This destroys the basis for the functioning of the European community as a community of free nations".

Not really, they're still about a month behind the UK and US and are only really catching up now as we run out of people to vaccinate; perhaps more significantly the huge gap in first doses across Feb - Apr undoubtedly contributed to a large number of additional deaths and vaccinating across the summer only really protects them against a resurgence next winter.

Perhaps more fundamentally, they contributed nothing towards vaccine development, were late to the party in ordering, and only got to where they are today by piggy backing on investments made by the UK and USA.

Its just water off a ducks back to them in fact they dont give a dam.

I understand we are all subject to our local propaganda but to give the obvious response

The Pfizer vaccine was developed by biontech a german company. 3 billion of these vaccines have been manufactured globally to date. The Marburg facility on its own will manufacture 750 million doses this year.

The covid death count in Germany is 40% lower than the UK in a population 25% larger, so no evidence of unnecessary deaths to be honest.

The daily case rate for UK is soaring, in Germany it's miniscule, as is the death rate in both countries.

But to go back to my original point the EU vaccination program is colossal, referring to the numbers above, it dwarfs even the US in scale approx 375 million doses to 335 million doses so far. Only China seems to have had as large an effect.

You just can't stop it can you.

It's the same behaviour as those dooms day cults. As soon as one EU apocalypse passes you just predict another one and expect it to convince us even though the previous 7 predictions passed with no effect.

The End is Nigh!

Without assistance or support from the EU, who didn't even get around to ordering it until November.

The covid death count in Germany is 40% lower than the UK in a population 25% larger,

Most of which were before the February, and thus before the vaccine programme started to have an effect.

Also there are plenty of countries in the EU with a far higher death rate than the UK

The EU's case rate is starting to go up and Delta is now 33% of cases sampled in Germany

I think you'll find the effort is by the manufacturers, not the EU.

Not much difference. Pleased we are no longer a part of it. Our fore fathers fought two world wars so we can live a good life.
