Tactics v Crewe

I'm not sure if it was a deliberate tactic or if it just worked out that way on the night but it looked to me like Stewart was playing the advanced midfield role and Virtue a more defensive role.
This could have been a deliberate tactic to try and break down Crewe high up the pitch but it seemed to leave us lacking the defensive solidity that Steward adds and the attacking attributes that Virtue brings.
They did switch throughout the game but Steward was far more advanced than he usually would be for most of the game.

I'm not knocking Critch, it was a tactic worth trying but I do think we lost the tactical battle.

You win some, you lose some. Tonight was a hard fought point won, in the end. UTMP!

What I don’t get re Critchley is how certain players suddenly become persona non grata for no apparent reason. Dougall been excellent all season and suddenly can’t even get 15 minutes as a sub? Same thing happened to Gretarrson earlier this season, we won a string of games when he was immense, then suddenly finds himself out of the squad and we don’t see him for a month despite Critchley saying he was fit. Those two should be in the starting 11 if fit.

Gretarrson has been out injured for a long time, he's a nailed on starter for me when fit!
I don't think Dougall and Stewart can both play in the same team if we have ambition. It has to be one or the other. I'd have agreed with Critch that Stewart in the number one choice until tonight, Maybe Dougall will get a start on Saturday?

Couldn't quite work out where we were struggling last night. Their tactic was one we wouldn't have really had much success with which was play the midfield two quite deep and pump it forward to the big lads up top. But then they also utilised the wings well. I didn't think we did enough of what we do well and I felt we should have given the ball to Kaikai a lot more than we did.

Yes but does Kai Kai ''demand it'' at times he drifts out of the game. Every game is a battle, we can't carry players. Mitchell and Embleton are pushing for a start in the 11.

I spoke briefly to Gretarsson the other day and he believes he will be ready for selection next Tuesday 👍

If Gretarson is available next week it will be a big plus for us, bearing in mind Ballard may away on international duty ?
