Taking Throw Ins

Two things from Saturday's game.
The ball went out right next to the corner flag on Saturday (Lavery guided it out rather than go for a goal kick) and the player took the ball forward at least 10 yards (probably more). Have refs given up on where the throw in is taken?
Critchley complained after one of the friendlies that we gave the ball away cheaply from a throw in and yet again on Saturday our movement, awareness and speed at taking throw ins seemed poor. No lessons learnt?

We still seem a bit like headless chickens at throw ins. No plan, no urgency, no movement - we almost use it as a breather which I don't know if that is intentional or not.

yep, the ref told him to go back but then he still stole at least ten yards if not more.
same with Norburn took a quick free kick just inside their half ref pulled it back to move ball back 10 yards Norburn took kick from exactly same spot as before ref didnt bother

We said exactly the same watching the game live on the tv.
We have been hopeless at throw ins for years, just no movement or plan, same for most freekicks.
I do wish we would employ a set piece coach.

IMHO the only way to stop it is to ban a running throw. Stood still, two feet planted, no run up. Ref/liner tells them where to stand and they stay there.

Pros will still try to steal what they can of course, it's innate in them

Pros are quite capable of taking a running throw from the right spot, it's incumbent on the ref to enforce that and award a throw-in to the other team if they don't.

White marks every 5 yards down the touch line you can take the throw from anywhere between the lines where the ball went out, if the players stray then its a free kick from a yard inside the touchline of the forward line mark.

The incident where the ball was put out at the corner flag was eventually taken beyond the 18 yard box. Its little details like that the refs ignore that encourages players to push at the boundaries of the rules. one of our players took a corner and the ball was a good balls width outside of the quadrant, there is very little gain in doing that if any at all, but players do it anyway.

All the shirt pulling by burton players on Lavery the whole game, ref gave a booking early on and must have thought that that yellow card sorted it for the whole game which it obviously didnt. I though the bookings for norburn and dougall were both very harsh and it seemed that beesley took the ball rather the man, but the ref took no action against any of the shirt pulling. inconsistency.

the problem is the EFL and the FA wont do anything to make refs more consistent. the new rules on timewasting are a prime example. first half seven minutes, there was nothing that would justify that amount of time, second half there were breaks for four sets of substitutions, time for an injury and a little bit of messing around by Grimmy at goal kicks yet still only seven minutes so where's the ** logic. Obviously the EFL have told refs to play more or at least account for more extra time but they are still just pulling it (the time added) out of the arses.

We need to be more aware then everyone at throw ins now that we are playing multiball. On more than one occasion on Saturday we were either too casual or were caught napping by the opposition taking quick throw ins.

Which teams vary their throw in delivery?
Most, sometimes long, sometimes short, sometimes quick, sometimes not. We just wait for someone, usually Connolly, to come across he then pisses about pretending to throw it. Eventually someone, usually Carey goes towards him, when Carey or whoever gets about 3 yards away it gets thrown to him. The ball then get returned to the thrower who either misses it and concedes an opposition throw or loses possession and we are chasing shadows, again. Next time, rinse and repeat. Happy?

It used to be always down the line to Madine who was surrounded by bigger defenders and inevitably we lost possession. The problem is, our players don’t move to give the thrower options.

You should apply for a job as throw in coach. I can’t say I’ve ever watched a team and thought these guys really mix it up with their throw ins
