Team vs Coventry

SQUAD:
Three players knocking on the door for getting into the solid squad of 18:
Ekpiteta, James and Stewart

With all of our deadwood gone, we only have qualityplayers left, so big decisions to be made :)
Casey surely has to give way, but which other two players if all these three gets involved?
I'd say one of Kirk/Dale.....and maybe keep James out of it

TEAM
Even if Reece available, I doubt they will change the fullbacks, as Sterling has been rock solid!
If Ekpiteta is ready, he goes straight back in for Thorniley, who has done his chances no harm, and he will be our defensive reserve, which keeps James out (I don't see us having two defenders amongst the 7 subs)

I haven't seen a lot of Robson, but would love to give him a chance...MK Dons are flying high in L1, and he was a big part of it.
Connolly the one to give way, as he had some dodgy involvements Saturday, and Dougall is a main-stay

Robson could also find himself out of the 18 if James is preferred...
I wonder how his personality is.
Bitter that we took him away from MK Dons, or eager to prove himself on a bigger stage, understanding his role in this?

Lavery probably replacing Yates

Grimshaw
Gabriel - Ekpiteta - Keogh - Sterling
Bowler - Dougall - Connolly/Robson - CJ
Madine - Lavery

Moore
Thorniley
Robson/Connolly
Stewart
Kirk/Dale
Beesley
Yates

Coventry have been playing with a back 3 so why wouldnt we stick to the 4-4-2 and exploit the space in behind, like we did against Bristol.

Id say stick with the same team, apart from Ekpiteta in for Thornily.

Im not a massive fan of Connolly, however I cant see it being a good idea to bring in Robson into this tough game.

Isnt Connolly supposed to be a defender, which is why I think he has stuck with him.

He can make some poor decisions going forward, but hes good at doing the dirty work.

I reckon Critch will throw in a curveball, with at least one of CJ or Bowler being on the bench . Could even be both .Dale and/or Kirk to replace .

Coventry have a very similar record to ours but we’ve got the better form in last 6 games, will be very tight and could end 1 1 draw,I’m happy for same team

Thorniley balances the back line if Critch goes with a back three. His distribution is also good. I can see Lavery up front on his own again, with Pool packing midfield; CJ and Bowler wide, Connolly and Robson holding, with Kenny and maybe Kirk further up. Of course he will confound us all with lineup that nobody expects.

O'Hare is their danger man best No.10 in this league and tends to run the game (he certainly did here), but we now have a decent set of midfield players settling in very nicely and l can see Stewart making a start tonight.

I always think the next game is when Kenny gets a rest but it never happens. What a pro he is 😍

I can see a case for reverting to 5 at the back and can see Critch sticking all the defenders in. We do lose something going forward with Sterling at left wing-back though.

Gaz ran his socks off on Saturday so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Beesley come in for him. I’d be quite excited to see what he could do over 90 mins.
Gaz will be rested and l can see Lavery upfront on his own to start with and then perhaps Jerry and Beesley coming on once Lavery has ran Covs defenders ragged!

you can never second guess Critch so my curveball guess is that he'll go Beesley and Lavery up front.

I think he’ll go with Lavery up top on his own. I would see that as a bit negative, as we really have nothing to lose. Jerry, Gaz, Bowler and CJ for me, frightening foursome, with Lavery to come on.

Please play 2 up front, we are better when we play positive football, Madine and either Lavery or Jerry to partner him with the other to come on later if required. With our wide players in form we really have a good chance of 3 points if we go for it. Come on 😋don’t look to play it safe👍

totally agree, it has to be two up front.

defo big marv back in.
if its a five i guess we would go just one up front and it never really works attacking wise for me but it might be different with an on song CJ and Bowler with Lavery through the middle. Pace, tenacity and irritation at one go, may have to bring in james then on the left for sterling, and i think we might miss sterlings defensive capabilities unless he was moved into the left sided CB position.

if its a four id be tempted to just do a simple change Marv for either thorniley or keogh i wouldnt know which one to leave out. Might be tempted to give Robson a run in midfield alongside kenny, instead of connolly as well.

they are decent problems to have, where we can see several options for set up and quality players to drop in across the board.

lordy knows what NC will do

Grimshaw
Gabriel Marv Keogh Sterling
Bowler Dougall Connolly CJ
Lavery Madine

Marv will play if fit, I can only see Yates and Lavery being rotated again.

433 tonights curve ball .

Attack attack attack. ( Can't see it happening but never know)

Grimshaw

Gabriel. Keough thorniley Stirling.
Dougall.

Hamilton. Bowler

Yates. Madine. Lavery

Difficult to leave Keogh out, especially away from home but he did take a battering on Saturday. I would like to see Ethan Robson given a start to see how he fares in The Championship against a good Coventry team.

Hope the absences of CJ and Gabriel aren't due to injuries ? I can understand resting Gabriel, but CJ hasn't played as much and is finding his form. Not even on the bench!!

I'm not surprised CJ has missed out, not long back from a long lay off, no need to push him when you have other options. Last thing we want is another injury.
Gabriel is a surprise though as is Robson
