Chrome.

ONLY on this site do I get a round black circle with a white X in the middle. I get rid, but every refresh it returns. Whilst visible I can't use the touchscreen or the cursor below the X. Above it's fine.

Why and how do I get rid? Google not reall;y helping (obviously it would if I put the right things in, but I'm getting nowhere).

Ideas?

It's the page formatting set out by the company who run the site.
The X is next to advertising and the way this site makes money, so it's formatted to always appear on your device.
I think it's quite a basic one as it's plonked at the bottom of the page no matter how you view it.
On different devices it will cause a problem on navigation but the only way to get rid of it would be an ad-blocker, which I think others use on here.

I do use an adblocker and haven't seen an ad on here for years.

Absolutely - it's an ad that's blocked, so you're just seeing the close button for it unfortunately...

Would normally consume all the space, like this:

The x indicates there is an advert there, I get it on Edge too, which is a chromium based browser

I get what you’re saying. I noticed it today. I use Adblock plus and the x has only just appeared. Might have a look tomorrow see what can be done.

The rogue X is still there this morning, so if you have Adblock Plus installed, click on the ABP icon at the top right, go down to the blue block element section, then highlight the X and block it, and you're done! (Other Ad Blockers have similar functionality)

That doesn't work. It clears the X but not what the X does. You then have to guess where the X is- a retro spot the ball type game, click and remove.

Strange t's only on this site.
