Tenuous connections to footballers

My Auntie Lillian was Jimmy Armfield’s secretary when he was Manager of Bolton. When she came over to see us at me mum & dads house in Hillcrest Rd. She’d say I’m just off for a cup of tea with Jimmy (at his house on Stonyhill Ave.) Bless her.

He was playing for a team in Guangzhou. I clocked him in the deli aisle and for about 5 minutes had the internal battle of whether he was actually Harewood or whether I was being a 'they all look the same racist'.
Eventually sidled up to him and whispered, "did you used to play for Villa and Blackpool?" while he was looking at goats cheese.
Marlon sort of mumbled, "yeah mate, do you want a photo" and for some reason I went "No you're alright I was just checking", which embarrassed us all. Not a classic story 😅
It's superb! Even better with the detail!

Colin Methven came on the Mere Park snooker trip with us not long after he left us, we called in at the Wigan FC club on the subsequent pub crawl after a day at the races. Nice bloke.

When I was married (so long ago I had forgotten this) we had a photo on our mantelpiece of my wife with Ryan Giggs, Lee Sharpe and Roy Keane. Alex Ferguson had taken them along to the Catholic school where she worked in Stretford. They were very young at the time and rocked up late and Fergie bollocked them in front of the school.

My most tenuous one is my late Gran’s cousins son (or something like that) is Mike Summerbee.

More embarrassingly, many years ago, I tried to get off with a lovely lady at an event at Wembley only to find out she was Stan McEwan’s wife!

When I lived in Wilmslow, I was mates with ASA Hartford, then Man City manage, the guy could drink like a fish. I me Joe Royal, Willie Donachie, George Best and several other city and Utd players at that time.

I sold a Rolex to the infamous Marlon King, just before he moved to Zambia.

Again, brilliant! Did they look sheepish in the photo?

My ex said that Lee Sharpe was very confident/cocky/charming, Roy Keane was painfully shy and never spoke, Giggsy was shy but not as bad as Keano. These things were reflected in the photo.

My uncles mother in law is Peter Osgood's sister. When they erected the statue of him my uncle went too and met the full Chelsea squad.

Also I used to work with Mike Davie's son.

I had regular sleepovers at Dennis Wann’s 👍 With his daughter when we were school mates.

Both Hillsy and Jamie Milligan have beaten me at snooker, only because I was too star struck obviously.

I used to pop in Terry Pashley's shop in Hambleton for fags when I was passing on my way to RLI going the 'exciting rally stage' way. From Shard to the RLI roundabout was a three cigarette drive as it was early.

I was still knocking about with her then. She’s retired from the force now 😯 done her 30 years etc. Time flies.
Yeah blimey shockin innit? She was just out of school back then I think, nice kid good sense of humour.

Shared a Sauna with Jock Dodds at the Imperial, loved talking to him about football and what a really nice person .

One of my dad's engineers scored a textbook header for Liverpool in the Merseyside derby in 1969
Unfortunately he played for Everton at the time - Sandy Brown

Brett Ormerod used to deliver parcels in my area.Cracking bloke and always happy to chat all things football.

My father knew and went to school with Ray Charnley. He also used get the same bus on occasion with John Craven in his Pool days.

I went to college with Graham Houston ex PNE dare I say.

I was in the same class as Kirsty Gray at school in Harrogate, daughter of Eddie. Lovely girl as well.

When did you live in Wilmslow as I worked there (and lived during the week) from around 96 - 99.

I used to be in The Rectory most nights after work 👍

She was very assertive 🥴🤣🤣 She ended up in CID and was on a tv documentary a couple of years ago.
Assertive 😂 Love it 👍

In fairness I had just left school and was a bit wet behind the ears. I did get on really well with her once she’d established who was in charge😉 and probably owe her a few hundred cigarettes she’d ‘crashed me over the years 😂

Good Memories….👍

Genuine story. Many years ago I knew a catholic priest who knew nothing about football. Employed a plumber to do work in his house. One day he was missing and when he turned up the next day the priest wanted to know why he hadn’t worked the day before. "I was playing for England at Wembley" was the reply. And the plumber’s name - Tom Finney.

Back in the 90s, my wife used to chef in a pub whose owner was Alan Hudson's partner. As a result she also met Peter Osgood on many occasions and Mick McCarthy. Her best one was hanging up on Kevin Keegan who rung for Hudson, as she thought it was a wind up. Hudson was a complete pr1ck by all accounts, but McCarthy was a gent.

Bumped into Charlie Adam walking round DeVeres. I followed him round like some weirdo.
Meet Paul Walsh at Blackpool airport, he was on his way to Ireland. Also meet Nicolas Anelka at Manchester Airport.

The energy place was managed by a bunch of sexist blokes in the main (the place was so sexist it was like a 70s sitcom) and Ms Wann didn't stand for that shit and I admired her for that, and the sense of humour she used, especially as she was still a teenager I think.

Nephew played under Neil Warnock and has got Rob Lee's Newcastle shirt from an FA cup tie at Stevenage.

Went to Colin Morris' rented house one night for a few beers with him and a few other mates as he used to drink in the pub around the corner, very pleasant evening but good job he wasn’t playing or training next day as it got a bit messy 🥴🥴🍺

My mum lived across the road from Alan Suddick in Larkholme and I share an ex with Josh Windass 😅

Ye, she was not about to take any sh*t !
I was thinking back the other day to our first meeting on the first day of high school and looking back I think she decided I was going to be her friend and I don’t think I ever had a choice 💁‍♀️

She was mad as a hatter in many ways though and got me into a couple of scrapes 🤣🤣 but we had a lot of fun 😆

I think it’s Dennis you owe the fags to as they just came straight off the shelf in the shop he owned 🥴😆
