Tharme, Dale, James, Casey & Virtue

How many of this group, who are returning from their loan spells be in our 25 man squad next season?

I would say that Dale and James may be wanted by the clubs they have spent the season with, if not then both will be in the squad. Thame will definitely be in the squad and I am looking forward to seeing him play, Virtue? Depends, he has talent so could be. Casey is likely to go out on loan or be sold I would think.

They are all potential young players trying to make it in league football, Bradshaw for Millwall turned out to be a good player after a tough start. So I dont think we will keep them all, 3 maybe. Dale will want to stay at Portsmouth & Virtue at Lincoln. James would be good enough next season, Tharme and Casey will want to know they are going to be part of the 1st team, but Casey might be sold IMO.

The guy who thinks Dougall has contributed nothing in 3 years thinks Virtue has talent. Wow.

Virtue would be useful, rest of them no. Portsmouth fans think Dale is awful, and he's been dropped to the bench for a good portion of the second half of the season

It's funny how most of our players that go out on loan don't have long term injuries.
I think it's because they're playing at a lower level where the intensity and fitness levels aren't the same. They'd also mostly had some games, so were more match fit ( for L1) when they moved.

Additionally, we've signed several players who hadn't had any/much game time prior to their signings.

A combination of both these factors has led to more injuries than you would expect (and noticeably in the first 1 or 2 games such as Bridcutt) , and why it's taken players so long to return. I've no idea if Appleton's training methods or the state of Squires Gate made any difference.,but those factors may have contributed?

Could’ve done with Virtue at times this season (typical that his least injury-hit season was when he wasn’t here)

James is a funny one. Always looked too soft and slow in the Championship but has excelled in L1. Maybe Wednesday will buy him?

The two central defenders have a bit of experience now and deserve the chance to fight for a place in the squad.

Dale is an enigma wrapped up in a mystery etc

Lots going on with these players when you think about it.

All we’re signed during the Critchley years and I wonder how they’d fit into who ever we appoints style of team structure and style of play.
What could work in all their favours going into next season is the fact they’ve been sheltered from the demoralising year we’ve all just gone through.

Virtue, talent levels beyond what most people give him credit for, but like most of this squad is now classed as injury prone suffering a lengthy spell out this season for Lincoln. Is he out of contract with the option year open to us? If that’s right I can’t see us activating that. Just can’t see him being part of a promotion winning side week in week out.

Tharme, thought he looked talented in the preseason games I saw. Physically he looks a specimen, a bit of an unknown but is part of a side about to be relegated. Might be a good back up.

Casey, every time I’ve watched him play I’ve been under impressed, the handful of games he played at the back end of last season he looked very shaky, positional sense was all over the place and needed a better loan move than Forest Green this season, only saw him once this season when Forest Green played on Sky, boy he looked really poor. Can’t see him forming part of the spine of a promotion winning side.

Dale, seems to have done really well at Pompey, might they want to put a bid in for him, think he basically has two years left with the option in our favour. I thought he showed some very good flashes of brilliance in the Championship, there’s a player who could form part of a promotion winning side. Will he want to come back as I’m not sure his attitude was always right but he’s just had a baby and may want to be back in the NW. under a new coach I think it could be a fresh start where he’s playing week in week out. I think we’d be daft to get rid of him at this point.

Bit of a mix bag there. Couple I’d let go, one who seems like a second stringer and one that could play an integral role.

No mention of probable ‘talent’ from our youth teams? Or, do we go “cap in hand” for a junior (who probably doesn’t want to come to us) from the likes of Citeh next season?
Insider. Any thoughts?
PS. Only Tharme from the above mentioned needs evaluating pre-season.

James could solve our left back issues and Dale is an upgrade on CJ Hamilton

I'm not arsed about the rest though we need better
I think James will sign for Wednesday, Dale isn't good enough and has the attitude thing. I'd like us to take a look at Casey and Tharme in pre-season. See if they measure up. Casey might be at a decent level now, and we need 4 centre halves..

Casey and Tharme have been shipping in goals for poor teams all season

Surely we need better than players who have played a part in the clubs getting relegated from the league that we want to get promoted from

They've played in poor sides yes, which i think means it's hard to know where they are at. Casey named player of the season apparently. What would he do in a better side? We should check them out before the season starts.

Casey got player of the year!

We were still shipping goals with Marv in our team! Does that mean we look elsewhere?

No, it's always about more than one player in a team when you go down, so it's impossible for us to judge.
The club will have got reports about them from the games they played no doubt.

I'd be surprised if any were here next season if we're serious about promotion.

Virtue and Dale aren't good enough.
Casey has never looked great, he's got player of the season in a relegated team who were the whipping of the division shipping 87 goals. Its like Southampton signing Jerry Yates because he was our player of the season, they will set their sights much higher and so should we.

Tharme and James are the tough ones for me, the can both cover more than one position which could come in very handy with a limited squad size. They've both done well in League One, James especially is well liked at Sheff Weds and they've been at the top end all season, although I can see him wanting to go there permanently. They play in positions we desperately need to strengthen as well.

If Virtue is the answer I’d be very worried about next season.I see he scored yesterday hopefully Lincoln offer him a deal.would be a good move for him.

Yep, I guess Tharme only came here as cover and fourth choice but he's got a good bit of league experience under his belt now. He's tall enough which is a big asset it's just a case of whether he's good enough and the new manager will decide that in pre-season. James is more of an interesting one for me. He came to us highly thought of but he just never seemed to be given an opportunity to establish himself for whatever reason. And having had a good season on loan at wednesday, I'd guess he'd love to make the move there permanent. Same can be said about Dale and Pompey.

Not a fan of Virtue, not seen enough of Casey to form a solid judgement.

I think James and Virtue will move on to other clubs. I liked Dale and think he could be useful to the squad next season. I'd also like to see how Tharme and Casey get on in preseason, although I can't see both of them making the squad. (Unless the transfer/injury problems occur again and are in need of players 😬).

Even Dale's manager was critical of him in the media.
Has anyone any information from Accy fans about Tharme's performances? They've leaked 76 goals this season & he didn't play well in their televised game I watched.

They will all be better for a season playing regular football, which is the whole point. Listen to offers but need to look at them pre season otherwise.

Isn't it 22 the next league down?
I believe the 22 excludes keepers, under 21 players and all loan players. We will need to get rid of some deadwood or injury prone players to free up some space for some new blood. I also think it is likely we will sell a couple if players to help balance the budget, with the large reduction in TV income

Not all loan players, just U21 I think.

I think Thame is the only one of the five who might be included. The rest are very average tested players and Virtue is sadly a croc these days.

Notice from his instagram that Oli Casey was on Lytham beach today. Might still live local?

CJ will tear League 1 defences apart, just like he did in our promotion season.

Dale will be useful when he turns up.

Not in the same class.
CJ will not tear League 1 defences apart in the coming seaon. He's nowhere near the player he was when we last graced League 1 with our presence.

Virtue will be delighted Critch is back. Dale also. Both could be big players for us next season. Neither are going back to their loan clubs from this season.
