That new cinema

The Cinemas in the town centre (Odeon / ABC etc) all basically closed as Cinemas because of poor attendances, expensive and the parking was an Issue, hence why they opened the Rigby Road Odeon although it was still expensive. It seems we have come full circle to having a cinema in the town centre with the original problems once again. It is to be hoped that the HH car park has free parking for those visiting the new Cinema otherwise it will disapear like the rest ot the Blackpool Cinemas.

Report in the gazette today of a really good membership scheme for locals at the new cinema. Seems a really good answer to the cost issue to me.

Should be free parking for locals, but I don't think it will be. They may do some sort of scheme though if pushed.

The locals discount is good but also the prices for this type of cinema are higher.

A lot of people use meerkat movies 2 for 1 and Odeon and Vue were great for that, getting rid of odeon gives people less options in the town.

From the everything Blackpool fb

free on-street parking is available and within 5-10 minutes walk of this venue

See details below

I'll continue to support the vue at cleveleys which is fantastic and the island at St annes. The imax will probably be a once or twice a year treat as its so expensive and yes, parking will be a problem.

Cinemas were booming until tv dented their popularity. Then videos. Then DVDs. Then streaming. Hope it is successful though but can’t see it.

More than a fiver and they can do one
16 quid for the imax and 11 for standard I think. That's at peak times, off peak is 9 standard and imax is 14.

Although locals can get this...

Imax is meant to be much better though.

Odeon is a fiver and Vue 7.99, although you can use meerkat movies and get 2 for 1 at Odeon and Vue which we used to do a lot.

So it'll be interesting to see how they get on. I've not yet looked at other imax prices but heard it was reasonable, especially with the locals discount.

The only issue is the got rid of the odeon and only left this, meaning less choice, but I get they wanted this to thrive.

They should also show some interesting and none main stream films mid week which will attract a different crowd on nights when they are usually quiet.

I suppose they are trying to do what the Odeon at Liverpool One has done with the Imax and create a date night experience for young people.

Hopefully it will work, but with the arrival of Apple Vision Pro and the cheaper models that will follow the Imax experience will be soon outdated.

That's not massive compared to the original Odeon and ABC.
Not sure how big that was, but look at the pic earlier in the thread with someone stood in front of it, it's big these days compared to normal cinemas.

Also it uses the imax tech for crystal clear images and amazing sound too.

If it's an Imax, it's certainly worth a visit. there has been one in Bradford for years and it's a different experience.

Other than not having Alia being born , I didn't see much difference. I loved the film, what did you dislike?
Loved the first movie, the second less so.

Visually very impressive throughout, apart from the gladiatorial scene on Geidi Prime.

As you say, the Alia change was weird, speaking from the womb?

Was also disappointed by the end fight scene between Paul and Feyd Rutha which deviated from the book.

£1 to park at Houndshill car park for 3 hours any longer normal hourly charges on top.👍

Decent food able to take a beer to your seat, comfy seats with charging points, courteous staff a great addition to our town.
Only problem film was a bit crap(Amy Winehouse).😀

Wait is that a thing now? Haven't seen anything about it.

In the Cinema you register you Car Reg on a touch screen to claim your £1 parking in Houndshill.
Excellent, I suggested something like that, makes sense to do it.

There's obviously free parking on certain streets at certain times, but this makes it a lot easier, a quid is nowt.

Do you get a ticket or a code to put into the machine in HH?

Also if you go after the shopping centre is closed, do you go in the same entrance, is that bit still open? As the carpark doesn't close until 11:30...

Not sure JJ how it works(ate in Diner and had a couple of pints cab home)just saw the machine to put in your Car Reg and the £1 offer.
The machine was upstairs just before entrance to screens so I presume it's payment as normal in HH.
I know they've finally sorted the problematic barriers which where allways breaking down and now have a Camera system and this is taken from the Gazette.Screenshot_20240415-110603-306.png

The back entrance of Houndshill next to cinema was certainly open after the shops had closed.

Ahh right, so with the updated camera system it should now potentially be capable of recognising locals maybe, if they do the free or cheap winter parking deals to help support town centres or whatever, maybe.... rather than downloading an app to get the quid parking.

Either way, it's great they've done this, I wasn't sure if they would.

Looks like it must have only just been implemented that scheme as they're only just advertising it now.

It’s a challenging business attendances are down about 30% on pre pandemic levels. Good luck to them.

Well it looks a fantastic cinema and imax too.

There's now the parking deal, which will cover most film lengths easily.

There's the locals membership to get 20% off and 10% off food.

Plus there's deals on certain weekdays.

It'll do pretty well especially with the tourism trade plus locals.
