The BFC player you always thought would come good .. but didn't!

If David Vaughn added goals to his play he could have been one of the greatest players to ever wear Tangerine.
He was still fantastic for us!

Adam Nowland for me. Remember consistantly screaming "Get Adam Nowland on ffs" (abbreviated of course!)

Thought he would be Premier League all the way.

What was the issues with Chris Clarke ....... he had a few good games then just disappeared?
Any ideas ?
Yep, a player with bags of potential. From afar, it just seemed that his personality was not cut out to be a top class footballer. Football at the top level is in the head too and it just came across that he wasn't too fussed. That's probably way too harsh but hope you get my point.

Surprised no-one has mentioned Tom Barkhuizen.A local boy with much promise who that halfwit Lee Clark, while giving him few opportunities despite good promise shown, tried to convert him from an attacking midfielder into a right back ffs. Then he let him go since when he has continued to demonstrate to our cost and the benefit of others particularly PNE, just what a waste of space Clark was and how valuable a player T.B. could and should have been for us.

Judging by his results here and elsewhere and the interviews he gave whilst with us, Clark must have few rivals to being crowned our thickest manager ever.

Of course he shouldn't have been let go but at the time there were players rightly in front of him for a place in the team. What he was was young with outstanding potential and PNE are now benefitting from that to our cost.

Willie Morgan - thought he was quality at Man Utd, absolutely shite for us! Same goes to a lesser extent for Mike Summerbee.

What ever happened to Dom Telford and Mark Waddington?
Went to Stoke. Don't know about Waddington but Telford was at Bristol Rovers and think he's now at Plymouth.
Think too many bigged him up on here and just get the feeling he thinks he's better than he really is or was.

Hoped rather than thought he'd come good; Demontagnac. Gifted, England u18 and England u19, speedy, skilful...and a nutcase. If ever a player could have had the world at his feet and blew it away it was him. Sent off at least five times in a short career and sacked by three clubs for breaches of discipline, what an utter waste. At least Olly gave it a go.

Blinks hatrick in the LDV one wet Tuesday night is still probably the falsest dawn I've ever seen.

Blinks had a bit of everything, but just not quite enough of it if that makes sense. He was an all round decent player but without one thing that he was really good at. (strong, but not a tank, not the slowest, but not a whippet, decent feet but not a ballet dancer and so on)

I don't remember Midgley at all. Thought Neil Midgley was a ref! When was this?
Sorry the name was slightly wrong . It Was Danny Mitchley. He was banging in goals galore for youth and reserves during 2007/08 season. Made a cameo 89th minute sub appearance against Crystal Palace in 2008. It went all downhill and ended up at Burscough Town.

Some very good shouts 👍

Ok I will go out on a limb a little & say i thought Iain Hesford should have enjoyed a better career after leaving.

He was great here England under 21 international but then moving to the massive seemed to halt his progress & career.

I thought he would go on to be a very good top flight keeper & maybe a full international & it just never really happened.

Dont get me wrong unlike some mentioned he had a decent pro career but i just thought it could have been better.
He became a bit of a journeyman & imo unfortunately never got to reach his full potential.

Another one who's career plateaued, Sean Clancy.
Jamie Murphy.
Phil Smith, young forward played a few games 1980ish

Outside bets
Andrew Barrowman
Neil Whitworth

I have to agree with Steve Davies. He came here with a fairly decent record and it just didn't happen for one reason or another. I even bought in to him second time round, thinking maybe he could rediscover some form. Just never materialised here.

This thread just goes to show that there's been hundreds of them.
For me there was Maluary Martin the World beater from the states, some Canadian kid whose name escapes me and more recently from the youth team Finn Sinclair who was tiny but helluva tricky on the ball, Rowan Roache , and I think that s about it ...I also wanted Kornilenko to batter a few goals in in the Prem

There is loads. Bender was one, was shit hot for WBA, scored for us against Leicester, never seen again. Thiago Gomes, Bruna and Kevin Sheedy, all massively disappointing.

Gomes was never going to get in front of Silvestre or Martinez. Unfortunately for Gomez our midfield was our strongest Possition.

Can I put in a late entry for Rory Prendergast (genuinely!). Saw him a few times playing for Accy and was delighted when he signed. There was the occasional glimpse of something good but generally he was hopeless.

Neil Matthews always looked like he would develop into a top class player. He had great vision for a young defender, but never made it out of the lower leagues.

Think Waddington was at Barrow.

Who was the Estonian international player that Riga signed for a fee .
His C/V looked good but he was gash! He played a couple games at start of that season.

Chris Clarke was a funny one. All the attributes for a commanding centre half but he was just brainless and I believe enjoyed the Blackpool nightlife a little too much.

There was also the story I heard (cannot confirm if true or not) that McMahon asked him if he knew who we were playing when they were getting on the team bus for an away game and he didn’t have a clue. Clarke was meant to be starting so Macca dropped him.

John Evanson. Signed from Fulham as a promising winger. Allegedly him and Mickey Walsh didn't get on to the extent of not passing to each other. Not what you need from a winger and centre forward.
When he received a pass he was always tempted to do a few ball tricks on his own during the match, then pass it badly ! An old mate of mine after he had done this and delivered another sideways pass said "I bet he is very good at Keepy Uppy " - Damned by faint praise 😂 😂 😂
