The Board : Josh Bowler

If Josh won’t sign a new one year contract then I understand the board must cash in.

However, are the club desperate for the money NOW……I’m not sure!!

Could we wait till the January window?

If we do, Bowler could significantly secure our Championship status which is worth a lot more than £5 million.

If Josh spends another 5 months at the club his value should increase!!

Of course we must off-set this semi-risky strategy with the fear of injury, loss of form and clubs knowing he is a free agent at the end of the season but for me, I think we should take our time and not panic.

I never “sit on the fence” so I’m saying “hold out for £5 million minimum with a 25% sell-on” or you ain’t getting him in this window!!

If Josh stayed until January his value would considerably decrease, regardless of how well he plays or how many goals he scored!
He would be on a 6 month contract and would be free to talk to any club he liked and sign a ‘pre-contract’ to leave for NOTHING at end of the season.
The club would probably end up accepting a nominal fee in January and letting him go to the club he signed the pre contract with

What are your opinions on the Armfield mural, sitting on the fence.

I think it's more that we all want him to stay but are expecting him to go. If he stays it would be better if he stays all season. There is the World Cup, as you know, so he would only be playing between now and the back end of November so about 3 months.

I guess we'll all find out by 11pm on Thursday.

Pretty much as many others have said in the majority of posts:

1) Great effort by Andy and all who contributed to make the project happen.

2) There seems to be an “art technicality conflict” with photographic reproduction and cartoon element.

3) I think the mural makes a statement and we are better with it than without as it is.

Could it be improved further……I honestly don’t know I don’t understand the “technicalities” I can merely “speak as I see” reactively.

Personally, I’d leave it as it is, it’s still a credit in what has been achieved even though others think it can be improved further.

It can’t be improved, it needs starting from scratch.

As far as Josh is concerned, the best we can hope for is a sale and loan back, January doesn’t work.

Sell him now for the highest they can achieve but only to a Prem club who are willing to loan him back to us for the rest of the season.
They secure him for the 23/24 season ahead of any competition and only have to pay the increased element in his wages plus they will get him at a snip compared to the ‘value’ of other deals recently done.
I’ve just seen a pink pig flying over St Anne’s as well.

Are you sure it wasn't #6 red arrow from the Rhyl air show

As far as the mural's concerned, I could hire a projector and have a go at copying the photo. I once did a perfect copy of a duck. I charge a pony an hour and I'm sure I'd get quicker.

Do you want a landau with the pony, I’m sure our friends on the prom could help.

How about this From the board to Josh.

If you sign a new three year deal, we’ll give you a signing on fee, to be negotiated, a guarantee that we’ll allow you to go. Ext summer if you want, and you’ll get a percentage of the transfer fee.

You know it makes sense Josh.

Bowler for me is the best player we’ve had since the Tom Ince was single handedly winning us points. (He’s better than Ince).

I think it should be 5 million upfront minimum but I think it’ll be 4 plus add ons.

He literally megged a player, flip flap megged him again then beat another two on sat. He’s unreal. Oh yeah and he scored, again.

Thanks for giving your opinion. I agree with your points 1 - 3 but think it needs re doing.

Quotation marks all over the shop again here.

We must have committed to some serious wages with these top class loanees. Maybe we do need to cash in to balance the payroll/books.

Not really be lucky if any of them are on much more than 5k probably a lot less big money for kids not near your first team but relative to Championship wages pittance.

The thing is Josh is worth North of 10 million, 4 million is an insult, 7 million should be the absolute minimum.

At least the letters to him are likely to change his mind 🙃

If there's anything that this has shown is that giving players long contracts is a risk worth taking. It may well have been Josh's preference to sign a shorter term deal, but if he had two or three years left, we'd be looking at £10m+. I know for every Bowler there's a Nuttall and they can be costly, but if you do your homework on a player properly those risks can be mitigated, and you only need to find one gem every 3-4 years for it to pay for nearly all your transfer activity for those years in question. Brentford have been the absolute masters of it - with the right recruitment team it pays off massively.

Let’s nick Brentford’s recruitment team then.

Think we're clutching at straws.
Forest are putting all their eggs in one basket in their bid to stay up.
Believe they'll want to use him this season if they invest now. Why loan him back after paying a substantial fee, when he'd be available for nothing next season? Moreover, JB might not be best pleased if they fail to stay up.

If he’s on a £25k a week 4 year contract I don’t think he’ll be too distraught.

As others have said, his form might go, he might get injured, clubs might wait and get him for nothing.
We're not a one man team and I do think we can carry on without him.

Are we at our max number of loans allowed already?
Someone mentioned this the other night S1…

Apparently there isn’t a Max number of loans yiu can have as a club, but just a max number you can have in your Matchday squad.

Not sure if that’s right or not..

Josh is a massive player for us but the reality is if the right price comes along we need to cash in or risk losing him for nothing good players come and go all the time hopefully we can pick up another gem. The one constant though is the security of the club and if selling Josh helps that who can argue.

Just looked it up…..

How many loans can I get in EFL?

The rules state EFL clubs can name a maximum of five loan players within their 18-man matchday squad. Birmingham City were the busiest when it came to temporary deals in 2021/22, with no fewer than eight loanees, whilst Bristol City were the only second tier side not to sanction a single loan transfer.27 Jul 2022

By all accounts, SS has given a figure and the board have been instructed not to take a penny less. Not sure of the actual figure.
