I was thinking about all this war stuff yesterday. My daughter has me watching some documentary series ‘Turning point - the bomb and the Cold War’ and it just makes you realise how nothing has changed. Nothing at all.
If it isn’t using religion to justify war and atrocities then it’s politics or race. At the end of the day it all seems to be about claiming or reclaiming land on some level.
All these power struggles and mass killings, when inevitably, at some point, none of us will exist anymore, as science and Mother Nature are the true dictators of our future.
What a waste of the time we’ve been given on this beautiful planet.

I was thinking about all this war stuff yesterday. My daughter has me watching some documentary series ‘Turning point - the bomb and the Cold War’ and it just makes you realise how nothing has changed. Nothing at all.
If it isn’t using religion to justify war and atrocities then it’s politics or race. At the end of the day it all seems to be about claiming or reclaiming land on some level.

Yep, usually land, sometimes 'retaliation', you only need to read the bloodthirsty comments on here after an atrocity, I think we're just fundamentally broken.

With respect SPS, I don`t think it is "the Jews" per se that "don`t help themselves", it is just (some) people generally.

In every society there are immoral and amoral people who will try to take advantage of situations for their own gain.

The Jewish population on a whole are probably no different to ourselves and most other cultures.

The cynical part of me thinks that the 7th October attacks have given Israel an opportunity for a land grab.
By the end of January at least 50% of Gaza's buildings had been destroyed;

At least half of Gaza's buildings damaged or destroyed, new analysis shows

Satellite data reveals at least 144,000 hit since Israeli strikes began, and how south is now bearing the brunt.

My son recently told me it is now 80%, basically Gaza is a building site.
Are the IDF trying to drive the Gazan population south into Egypt (those that survive) then occupy and build settlements on the land taken?
What would the world do about this?
Probably just sit and watch.

Maybe this is fantasy but can someone explain what the Israeli government is actually doing in Gaza? They have gone well beyond retribution.

even though, i've generally come down on the Israeli side of the fence with regards to this war, i did say very early on in the long "war thread" about what were the ulterior motives of the Israeli Govt when it comes to perhaps forcing all Palestinians out of Gaza. And that is so wrong and can not be allowed to happen. Similarly this land reclaiming in the West Bank has to stop. But these are just my words and even though they are said and echoed around the world it has to happen. Problem is, that everywhere you look in the world these days there seems to be problems and that distracts from the big issues.

How this all started last year was horrific in itself, but the retribution has been, in my opinion, way over the top.

I saw a piece of graffiti in Liverpool last week , which had been removed the following day, which showed the Israeli flag with a swat sticker in the centre rather than the usual Star of David. Sickening but totally expected.

The news that some Israelis want to settle on the Gazan coast only reinforces the opinion I've had for a long time about all of this. That is that neither side particularly wants peace because there is no desire for compromise, and they're both as bad as each other. Hamas may have kicked off this current conflict, but Israel continually pursues antagonistic policies. And they know they're antagonistic.

I will also repeat what I've said before. The only way to achieve anything like peace in the middle east is to improve the lives of the Palestinians, not make them worse. That's because terrorism and extremism thrives in desperation and you need to remove it in order to remove the power base of these organisations. Doing what Israel are doing will only end up making their security situation worse in the long term.
