I hope this is a thread that will “age well”. I’m still working out his contribution to the team but obviously the last 3 managers all favoured him. My question is, what is it that I’m not seeing? TIA
He’s got all the attributes to be a quality midfielder in the Lampard mould. However, when he started to get into form he got injured and then we appointed Appleton who every player regressed under and who decided to pair him with another child to keep us in the Chanpionship. I hope he can get a run and crack on. It was interesting to see Garrity at Vale who was a similar case to Carey but the club obviously thought had reached the end of his development. He didn’t look outclassed and has clearly benefitted by a club having a bit of patience.I hope this is a thread that will “age well”. I thought he had a good game, despite his poor shot. He needs more consistency but he's worth persevering with.
Except it was Lavery moving away from Rhodes that gave Rhodes the opportunity to shoot. Again, worth persevering with but not for 90 minutes. He is better than Weir and Morgan but not as good as Virtue but as Virtue will be out for a few weeks he is our best option as a number 10. Rhodes and Lavery just does not work so it’s Lavery who needs to make way for Deembeleor Kouassi and Joseph when he is fit.
and that’s been our problem over the last 3 years in that we haven’t done well in the transfer market. We’ve been crying out for some quality players who can create chances and not sit on the physios table 2/3s of a season. He is better than Weir and Morgan but not as good as Virtue but as Virtue will be out for a few weeks he is our best option as a number 10. I totally agree and have been saying that for over 3 years yet we just don't seem capable of signing this elusive player, why? I have no idea, they are out there but we have tried to fill that crucial position with kids, young loan players when we need someone who can do it, they are out there but we don't seem to want to pay the money they cost, but whilst we are without that player we are always going to be short. Virtue could be that player, he has the experience now, he can score but he seems to put on a tangerine shirt and then get injured. I like Carey but he hasn't progressed at the speed I had hoped he would, but he will, he had a good game today and it showed when Morgan came on and struggled. Weir seems to be out of favour but again, another loan player who isn't really ready to give us what we want. We need to have that player as our signing, not a loan or a kid, it has been essential and we've failed.and that’s been our problem over the last 3 years in that we haven’t done well in the transfer market. Going back to Carey, he should be a player to bring off the bench or loaned out to another club in this league to find himself. We’re not in a position where we can carry all these “potential” players.
He’s 23 in January , this is his 3 rd season with us. How much development does he need?He s 21for Christ's safe let him develop ⁸
Spot on. Some games I just don't even notice him.His game out of possession is not good enough.
But didntShould have scored in last 2 games. Hey-ho
Have to take a hard disagree on the good shot commentHis game out of possession is not good enough. He cannot tackle and does not close down quickly enough. In possession he does have some ability. He has a good shot and occasionally makes forward progression, but more often than not turns back and makes the easy pass, either backwards or sideways.
