It'll cost big to replace the cladding on all the affected buildings. We're supposed to have building regs to stop these kind of things happening. It's a quagmire of uncertainty from what I remember, trying to decipher who's actually to blame.

Another aspect of this fiasco will be what to do about the waste from all the blocks that require a refit. Most of it is going to be some version of polymer bonded zinc, which is tricky to process. I wouldn't be surprised to see it quietly exported, incinerated or landfilled, none of which are acceptable outcomes.
Two of the reasons for the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, kindly illiustrated by Dodgy, although, the Dangers of Asbestos were well known about since the late 1800's. Covered up by big business, various governments world wide etc. Thus the mess that has been left from exposure to this lethal mineral. But nothing to do with the original question.
