The Hundred

Have given it a chance but I can't see what it adds. My overall worry is there is simply too much cricket and the schedules (even without Covid issues) are crazy

Having been at EOT last night it has defiantly attracted a new fan base (basing on the conversations heard)

It's great that kids will develop an interest in cricket because of the 100 but when they go to their local cricket club and want to smoke very ball for six that will be an eye opener for them.

Wow, Superchargers score 200, some chase on for the Originals.
I don't think I've ever witnessed a more sloppy, pathetic fielding display from a team in my life, dropped catches, misfielding, bowling pies, you name it, the Originals did it, 200 from 100 balls? The run chase will be interesting.

It was absolutely embarrassing. Phil Salt was appalling behind the stumps and lets not even start on Steven Finn. Utter garbage. And Parky was shite too.

Well it looks like the close finish we were all hoping for isn’t going to happen the Originals are 88/6 so 113 still required off just 31 balls.

Your all discussing this like its proper cricket......
It is proper cricket. Unless you could score boundaries from Lockie Ferguson at 95mph or swat Rashid Khan about? By trying to belittle it won't make the full houses in the nation's grounds go away. Move with the times mate. People don't want 5 day draws and 5 runs an hour anymore. They want smash bang wallop cricket in it's purest form played by the best players in the world. They want to be entertained.

And they are. T20 and The 100 is paying for your county cricket and test matches to go ahead. You should be grateful.

I feel a bit like Phil regarding cricket on here. I'm not one to say I told you so despite being told I was spouting shit. But I did tell you so for many years now.

Kids don't dream of the forward defence, they dream of cracking the ball into the crowd. That's why the Beefys, the Flintoff's and KPs were the stars. Well now the game is transforming and kids - boys and girls can be that star. Not just once in a generation players of a stale game dominated by toffs that broke the mould.

Listen it's fine. Cricket will survive in its purest form no problem, there's hundreds and hundreds of cricket clubs all over the country and millions of cricket fans who don't need the extra titillation to enjoy the game. I'll be able to watch it for the rest of my life while you enjoy your wannabe baseball.
The hundred is all about money as in life but test match cricket is still the most lucrative part of the game even though the ECB seem to be taking it for granted.
You talk as if the hundred is a roaring success but let's see. There's a long way to go. Just because T20 worked doesn't mean this will. I wonder what the viewing figures are like on terrestrial TV? Yes the crowds seem to be at the grounds but it's early days.
Just to say I have watched it and given it a go.

Liam Livingston. Absolute genius tonight. 92no from 40 balls. Three 4s and ten 6s.
It was a phenomenal performance from him . . . firstly with the ball and then stunning with the bat. Fastest 50, most runs and most sixes . . the best white ball batsman in the world at the moment 👍

I went tonight. Livingstone and Tahir were the absolute standouts. Superchargers got absolutely nothing from Tahir and Livingstone hit us ragged. Unreal performance and a great night.

Tahir is just world class at his art. He's 42 but there is no reason he couldn't play for another 5 years.

The Superchargers started so well and the Pheonix just strangled them after the powerplay.

Was it a good craic? Looks great fun on TV and there were some staggering catches in the crowd!

I couldn't agree more mate. He is imperious at the moment. He must be on cloud 9. He makes it all look so easy.

The whole atmosphere was unreal! I think the whole crowd was egging Livingstone on to score a century, even though the Superchargers had long lost the game. Great game, good atmosphere and my mind was at rest knowing Phil wasn’t there 😂

Yep. The crazy loon went head over tits completely but did not let go of the ball. Incredible catch!
He was on the opposite side of the ground to me and we’d all hoped he’d caught it haha! Unreal! After seeing the pools goals tonight it seems there was another great catch straight into the net 😤😤

The way he's on fire at the moment let's get him in the test team . . he's always had the talent but now has a maturity to his game.

I'm not sure I've seen a more confident English cricketer for a good while.

Livingstone v Dom Sibley . . no contest

He then went on to spill his pint all over his top!!!

A night of mixed fortunes

It's such a sad state Leither. The ECB has sectioned out each format of the game. Truly awful.

Look at that Indian test squad. It's basically the same squad, bar a couple that represent India in all formats. Surely that is what you would do? Just pick the best players?

To see these utter turnips opening the batting for England whilst we have utter gold in the white ball game tells you all you need to know about the selection process.

It's probably gone too far now as the white ball guys are making big money. The ECB is stuck picking from the utter dross left in county cricket.

I agree to a certain extent Mac but we have tried a few great white ball players at the top of the order - Roy, Hales, Duckett, Vince without much success.

I think out of that list Vince is the one we should give another chance to along with maybe Malan & Livingstone.

Out of the current openers it is only Sibley I'd ditch and never have back . . . Burns and Crawley I think could be OK with the right coaching.

I think the argument for Livingstone is strong because he has everything . . . and plays with such confidence. Just watching him take a catch you'd think he was in a practice session he's so assured.

A lot of thought and big decisions to be made by the powers that be.

Livingstone is obviously a hugely talented striker of the white ball that moves around far less than the red ball rather like Roy. But I`m unsure of his temperament even though he has matured and is hugely effective on his day, he is a hothead ,so time will tell.
