The random defeat that always sticks with you?

So, for whatever reason, is there a Blackpool defeat that still irks? Maybe a long distance drive, an unjust loss etc - February 2001 when we lost 2-1 to Chesterfield despite being the best side, totally out singing them and being on the receiving end of two sucker punch goals - genuinely still annoys me!!

4-0 defeat away at York......wasnt it always

Went on the Tango coach, as such we had tickets to sit in the York family enclosure in the main stand.......

I somehow managed to blag my old man to stand behind the goal with the other pool fans (sitting in the family stand was for little kids, not 11 year olds)

We got onto the terrace about quarter to 3, from about 10 to it hammered down for the full 90 minutes........safe to say my old man was not amused.

To compound things there was an away seating area under cover but the stewards refused to open it because it was £2 cheaper to stand up........after about 70 minutes they were ordered to by the local plod and the last 20 minutes were spent under cover........it didnt however make the 3 hour journey home, p*ssed wet through any easier.

1-0 away defeat to Portsmouth 2011-12 I think. They played absolutely no football (fairly typical of a Steve Cotterill team) , just tried to stay in the game. We played them off the park, but we didnt work their keeper enough. They came into the game for the first time as 90 minutes approached. 4 minutes of added time, they scored after 3 minutes 45. Gutting.

Bradford home in Play Offs.
Coventry in FA Cup in 1969. Cruising to a 1-0 win with minutes to go. Capitulated and lost 3-1
Sunderland away in 1974. Say no more.

Gillingham at home before Bloomfield Road was developed. 3-0 up but conceded 3 in the last 10mins or so, the last of which was pretty much the last kick. To see their 20 fans going mental on the Kop did my head in at the time.

This game was the first I thought of also.

It was one of my earliest away day memories and I remember asking my dad if we could go home. He turned around and said you always stay to the end and so that was that.

I was in the Chesterfield directors box for that match as a guest of a company I deal with, my host was thoroughly ashamed of the theft of 3 points!

I had to catch a specific train to get home from that game and left on 93 mins 30 saying, there's no chance of either side scoring....

Walsall away when we needed a win to go up, I remember Colin Methven was outstanding for them at the back. The other thing that sticks in my mind was we invaded the pitch at the end of the match and poured towards their end and instead of kicking off actually shook hands with all their fans. odd, very odd.🤔

Bradford City at home in the Semi Final Play Off. 2-0 up from the first leg, printed directions to Wembley in the programme for the 2nd leg - and then Carl Shutt scored a hat-trick. I still carry a copy of the League table at Easter in my wallet. We were top, they were 10th. Aaargh!!!

Yeah we did everything but score, should've been 3 up in the first 20 minutes, the guy who scored Eric something was Norweigan........all I could hear in my head all the way home was the chant "Eric the viking" 🤬

Yep, an awful game. I thought The West Ham/Marlon Harewood love in was a bit cringe-worthy; and whilst I'm at it, wasn't this the game where Scott Parker spent 90% of the game on the floor looking for free kicks (and getting them of course?)

Honourable mentions also for Wigan & Blackburn in the PL.

But for some reason (which I can't explain), I will personally go for the 2-1 midweek home defeat to Fulham in April 1978 during the awful run which sent us down. Their fans on the kop must have got back in their Fiat 500 and laughed all the way home - Bugger!

Torquay away. 2 1 up in the 90th minute, comfortable. Someone decides to streak from the away end and we manage to concede 2 in the added time for that incident. A long way home stewing on that one.

Was selling programmes at that game, Walsh scored from a pen early on and I thought we are back but of course we managed to concede two somehow. I remember the pen because I was standing by the goal on the track round the groundtrying to sell programmes, so it must have been early on in the game. The gate was only 4000, the lowest home gate for sometime, I hardly sold anything and made about 25p from what I can remember.
