The season so far a reflection.

Whilst I would love my team to get promoted and I want them to win every game I think we all need to calm down and reflect a little. At the start of the season I had realistic expectations. A highly qualified coach with a great reputation he has little experience of League 1 football and the realities of working in men's football. He clearly wanted us to play a high press game but didnt have the quality of players needed to pull this off. Enter Calderwood and Madine with a more direct approach and a plan B. I do think that by and large we play a more attractive game than under Simon. However we are short of 3 or 4 players of Championship quality which will require serious money. The idea that you can develop young players from League 2 and hire kids from the Premiership and get promotion is not realistic. We ha e the basis of a decent squad bit it needs to be improved. I have learnt over the years not to be too emotional over victories or defeats. I don't particularly like fans slagging off and abusing a decent man a d a very good coach. If we get promoted no one would be happier than me but in my opinion we are simply not good enough and I have thought this all season. Give this guy at least 2 more seasons and build a base to move this club forward with our excellent owner.

I'm all for giving the manager and coaches time, definitely. I think what's frustrating though is that our achilles heel this season has been our home games against bottom half sides, and I wonder if a more positive attacking approach may have brought us more points. We don't need two holding midfielders against these sides, yet we rarely see Dougall or Ward get that far across the half way line. I think we've been too risk averse for most of the season at home to be honest.

Agreed, and that approach has been reflected in the number of home draws sadly.
I'd rather win and lose rather than draw twice. The unbeaten run was very impressive, but too many draws which might come back to bite us on the arse I'm afraid.

I think recruitment has to be looked at. We should be going in to these last few games with a couple of decent strikers on the bench to put pressure on the two up top. This has to be questioned in my humble opinion.

The thing is with Critchley - you have to give a chef all the right ingredients and let's face it we have those but some aren't available and so it's inevitable that some dishes won't be as good as others!
