The Stewards Today

Have to say I’ve never seen anything like it in recent years
Their highly aggressive attempt to evict a young lad ( not sure what he’d done ) turned into the biggest fight in a stand I’ve seen since West Ham infiltration of our end at Wembley in 2012
Not sure where H&S and ‘ reasonable force ‘ comes into it when you have people tumbling over seats as they try to get out of the way of the stewards
The young lad with us was very upset and I’m only surprised no one was seriously hurt

And who was it and what was he guilty of

Providing he wasn’t fighting, acting aggressively why can’t people just watch a game whevwr they want too ?

The Millwall mentality has got to stop - itsagame of footie, just let people entertain you

Was this in the home end? Could see a commotion on the telly towards the end of the game and it looked like quite bad

Seems excessive particularly when you needed a LFT or Covid pass to get in, then you’ve got ‘super spreader stewards’ getting too close.

TAM is on about the stewards in the blackpool end utterly disgusting behaviour round young children.
All because a teenager (maybe 16) celebrated a goal....

I was sat next to a steward and they were being instructed by their supervisor to keep certain supporters under surveillance for no apparent reason other than they looked to be a problem. This in clear breach of the RIPPER laws. They were in effect acting illegally. Outside they kettled us in the locked compound, which was ridiculous when you had 25 minutes to get to the train station. I have written to Swansea City CEO as the behaviour was abysmal. Anyone see the old man being pushed in the chest outside the ground? The steward was probably feeling intimidated as he was alone and about 30 people demanding to be released to get to their transport. Swansea is in the dark ages.

Why would the flag of The UK be odd in a football stadium in The UK? Some right weapons about these days ...
Well it's quite simple actually, people from Wales tend to indentify as Welsh rather than British, so the flying of the Union Flag over the Welsh flag isn't something you'd expect at a ground in Wales.

Nothing highlights that point more than the entire discussion that prefaced your response: someone was attacked and ejected for flying the Union Flag in the open in their home end, followed by a chorus of "WALES. WALES. WALES. WALES". The only club you see fly the Union Flag really are Rangers, English clubs fly St. George's Cross.

So there you go, you weapon 😉

Absolute shit hole. Took over an hour to get on the M4.

All the stewards I spoke to seemed pretty nice but clearly some absolute wankers ruined that experience for our fans.

There was an absolutely embarrassing fan having a go at a steward for no reason, saying she was blocking his vision. Even though even in his line of sight, he could see 100% of the pitch.

Isn't it a human rights violation to hold fans back? I think you should voice your concerns to Lancashire police.

The police were no better!
Playing on their phones pretty much the whole of the game and watching the game not the supporters 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

They to were a joke, not to be seen when 2x 45-50 year old huge animals/excuse of human beings literally took it upon themselves to come up from behind us and attack me and my 17 year old daughter on our way back to the car!!!

If it wasn’t for me forcefully pushing one away and a steward and 2 really decent Swansea fans coming to our aide upon seeing these monsters then who knows!!!!!

Great result though 🧡🧡🧡🧡

That’s awful, hope both you and your daughter are ok. I usually take my daughter with me and am always on my guard whenever we travel away. I’m also welsh, but am ashamed to be hearing of the behaviour that you encountered yesterday.

the “aggro” in their end was a few lads who had a Jack and also a northern irish flag with Swansea Loyal across it - some lads behind started chanting Wales Wales Wales and it all kicked off.

I am always amazed that people are so confident about their heritage that they know they are 100% Welsh, English etc. We are a mongrel nation and as an island we probably identify as British.

yea mate i was going down to the concourse a minute before ht and a steward collared me and said i was being watched - basically i’m on day 4 of non smoking and was having a crafty vape every now and again. i actually thanked him for tip off.

The same steward then later in the game gave me a sly dig as they rushed up to tbe “trouble” one row above me - i did go to retaliate but my lad pulled me back - which in hindsight was the correct decision.

My understanding of the flag issues at Swansea is that it’s not flying a Union Flag that’s upset some - it’s the flying of flags with loyalist /political slogans on that’s given some the hump.

You had a rollie in your mouth? They were watching you. Be careful, its a long way home if the coach leaves you, from first hand experience

Isn't this exactly the same thing that a lot of Blackpool fans are asking the Poice to do to prevent problems after the games on Bloomfield Road?

I identify as English rather than British and I wasn't and never get upset when I saw/see the UJ.
Well there is a massive difference in identifying as English over British as an Englishman. Anti-Britishness from Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland is in part anti-Englishness, they want to be separate from the Crown and Westminster as they feel supplement to England - being English in that scenario means you don't feel any of that sort of resentment so you'd never view the Union Flag as a distasteful symbol.

It is why people from those countries who are pro-British are referred to as loyalists, they are loyal to the crown and Westminster - they want to remain part of the Union. You might identify as English but I doubt you are ANTI-BRITISH, you just don't identify as British - whereas those who don't identify as British from Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland will most likely be anti-British, rather than apathetic to the Union.

I doubt there is anywhere in England you couldn't fly the Union Flag, it wouldn't matter how many people around you identified as English rather than British, you'd get home with yourself and flag intact. There will be plenty of places across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland where I'd worry for your safety and that is the difference.

and the fact that throughout the 80s the Union flag was flown at all England games by lads and very rarely you saw the flag of St George.

I've wondered why that is, you see videos from back in the day and the terraces are dominated by the Union Flag rather than St. George's Cross, now it is the other way round!

Correct. The only reasoning behind Lancashire Police not doing this at BR is so they can continue to contribute to the numbers needed to justify their mass presence and funding at football matches by arresting people and issuing banning orders.

If trouble came to an end, there would be no use for the police inside the football stadium, which would then mean less funding for them. Do you really think they would allow that?

It’s the same as more people get fined for criminal acts in the lead up to Christmas as it helps to fund their Christmas festivities. The sooner people realise that the police are the issue the better.

Our fans continue to be brainwashed by statement after statement from the police, informing people that it is Blackpool Fans acting inappropriately. Despite them blatantly lying to fans by stating it is against human rights to detain people following a football match.
