The summer transfer rumours thread.

Blackpool mut be a really attractive club to lads from Liverpool a club going forward under new owners
and only an hours travelling from their present homes.

Abel on the Vital forum says that based on when he was at Lincoln he can play defensive mid, centre half, and right back at a push.
Yeah, feel like his Wikipedia has been written by someone being a little generous (him, his agent or a family member?).

Has he played across the back four? Yes, but only in emergencies really.

Of his career league appearances, 64 have been in defensive midfield, 52 have been at centre half, 18 have been at right back, then 7 at left back, 6 on the right of midfield and 1 on the left. He's not had a run of games at right back since the 16/17 season where he played 10 games there on loan for Wigan.

He does bring Turton's versatility to the table, without being a right back. I think he'll be earmarked as cover for Dougall/Stewart and will mean we can ship Robson off.

He's a good character too. Decent addition.

Is this move a goer then?
Will be very happy if this goes ahead - only seen him play on a couple of occasions (vs the Cods), but he always looked like an absolute rock and was very popular with the Cod fans (all 5 of them).

Cheers. Statto!

He captained the Cods too, at a young age and whilst on loan. I hope this isn't made up bollocks. He does sound like a critch type - 23, versatile, Everton!

Ballard and Simms madea huge difference to us last season, especially towards the end. We must be a really strong proposition for good quality loans this season, for young players tuning up for the Premier League. I am sure that Critch & Co are seeing that as a route to creating a very competitive side out of what is already a very solid and well organised side. Even if it means Ballard and Simms returning - they are both improving rapidly with games and will continue to do so - and perhaps a really good midfield playmaker.

If Rovers can get Harvey Elliot, Luton had KDH, this is the type of player we can look to bring in. And we really need to. Within our financial means, obviously.

Just to back this up:

Ballard to Milwall.won't go away.
I think that ship sailed when we got Casey in. Connolly just Re-I forced that view. Shame but I think we are already strong in defence. Let this one go.

Tin hat here. From Ballard's and his Club's pov it makes no sense to return here. To progress he needs different inputs from different coaches, set up's and players, not 'more of the same' although in a higher league.

The player himself can live in his own place, the Club can send scouts/U23 manager/whoever to monitor his progress much easier. DB can still have contact with AFC at AFC.

No longer out of sight out of mind.

It doesn't make no sense to me tbh. We are a level higher, the level he needs to be at. We are a stable club with a great coach, who would play him and develop him further. It would make quite a lot of sense, surely?

If we were the only option, then YES!!! But we aren't. All things being equal he stays local.

On the coach side didn't DB sings the praises of CC as a teacher??

I think the writing has been on the wall for quite a while that Ballard won't be returning for whatever the reason and I'm not even sure that we actually wanted him unless we could lhave had him back on a permanent deal which was probably never possible.

You probably dreamt that. 😉

I hear a hell of a lot about what a fantastic coach NC is.

All things aren't equal. Local isn't necessary for a season loan surely.

Probably nail on the head there Insider.
If we could've made it a permanent then great but do we want to spend another season developing and adding further value to one of Arsenal's players...especially now that developing our own has been the stated aim.
On the other hand, if we HAVE put an offer in, that could be the reason the Millwall deal is not yet over the line.

Makes sense that tango94👍

We would be mad not to exploit the loan market IMO. Improve the team with players we can't afford to buy. Like we did last season, and the season before.

Agreed....and I'm sure we will.
Don't get me wrong...I'd be very happy to have Ballard back as an option.

I disagree with part of what you say, with regard to “ different input from different coaches and players”.If arsenal decided not to loan him , but keep him there, he would be under the same coaches and with the same players. Surely they wouldn’t do that if it hindered his progress, nearer to home were they can monitor him more closely yes, that’s the main reason he won’t be back .

They have said he's going out one way or another. It makes sense to me (if they are not selling) to loan him somewhere closeish so they can keep a proper eye on his progress, bring him in for chats, training etc. That's what I would do.

But as insy says I'm not sure we want him bad enough anyway.

Agreed, I would have had him back in a flash, but that boat has now sailed, if the new boys are half as good as I hope, as said we don’t need him. But I wish him luck with his future career and will always be grateful for what he gave us.

Cross this one off the list.
I saw that - to be honest, if he's gone to Bradford, am not sure he was on the list anyway!

J.P. Sartre. Left winger ginger cross eyed deep thinker about the game. Has iron in his soul. He once dismissed Cantona as “ a sprat who follows a rubber dingy.” On a free from FC Camus.
