I agree.Critchley used Turton when he thought we'd need to defend and Gabriel when he thought we could attack down the flanks. Critchley saw Turton as the better defender. So, given that we probably need a better defender than Turton in the higher league, so it's hard to see Gabby suddenly stepping up.
If he was to sign I reckon he'd be used in the same way as last season and an exp. RB brought in.
Exactly. More bought as an investment with playing a boost alongside. My comment about Gabriel was that his form seem to stall a bit after Christmas when I was expecting him to push on and that clearly coincided with Turts getting picked ahead of him.
He does have plenty of potential and I would certainly taken a chance on him if the finances were right.
I wouldn't however be held to ransom.
Well think they are happy he has signed for further 3 yearsI wouldn't trust a Sunderland fan's view of anything tbh
I think Embo is only contracted for another season at Sunderland? Triggered the one year extension when he signed for us on loan.Well think they are happy he has signed for further 3 years
Sorry this, was in relation to O'Nien who I said was preferable to Embleton as at the time was a free, others disagreeI think Embo is only contracted for another season at Sunderland? Triggered the one year extension when he signed for us on loan.
"Blackpool have signed Sunderland midfielder Elliot Embleton on loan for the rest of the League One season. However, the 21-year-old will stay with the Black Cats until the summer of 2022 after they triggered a one-year extension in his contract."
I agree with all of that,Had a feeling things would go a bit slower after the initial frenzy of signings.
The initial signings we made were good; Lavery, James, Connolly, Bowler, Carey, Casey, and Grimshaw are all decent signings and could play some part in our first year back in the Championship, with Connolly (and maybe James) being the only ones from the bunch who you'd think would have a realistic shot of going straight to the XI, but overall none of them were WOW signings. Bowler, Carey, Casey, Grimshaw, and Lavery are projects.
However, as pre-season gets into full swing, I think we are going to start seeing the WOW signings. The only reason it has taken so long is because I think Critchley knows that the squad we have already is probably good enough to stay up, but nowhere near good enough to challenge for Playoffs, so there is no imminent pressure to make rash decisions right now.
The last two weeks feel like we are just playing the market to see what clubs want in terms of fees, taking our time, and waiting for the right moment to pounce.
We will make 2-3 WOW signings before the season starts, we just have to be patient and wait.
Remember, good things come to those who wait.
I'd like to agree with you and I am an optimist but 3 WOW signings is pushing it.Had a feeling things would go a bit slower after the initial frenzy of signings.

Any excuse for this one.Alberto Tatlocki .Veteran defender. Revels in playing in a flat cap back 4. On a free from FC Corri.
Believe we're also after Ena Shapples from FC SnugAlberto Tatlocki .Veteran defender. Revels in playing in a flat cap back 4. On a free from FC Corri.

Bit of a free hit for Forest, I bet when they loaned him out they didn't expect him to do as well as he has. My mate is a Forest fan and had little knowledge of the lad.Gabriel returned to Forest training this week.
Think if he is going to come back, Forest will at least want to see him for 2-3 weeks before making a decision.

At least one more right back, couple of central midfielders and a couple of strikers. So 6 for meHow much more business do we have to do when we look at those who have left and our new additions? Certainly one more right back, or the return of Gabriel and a big striker, or the return of Simms!

Connolly looks more like a centre back than a right back on this brief appearance.Cos we haven't signed any right backs yet.
Hodder needs to pay attention!
He looks capable of playing right back but not his best position, would be wasteful. Could depend on us being able to a sign specialist RB or two.Connolly looks more like a centre back than a right back on this brief appearance.
We are going to have to sign at least one right back, switching to the other side I thought the lad from Doncaster looked decent and I think Husband is going to be a left sided centre back from now on.He looks capable of playing right back but not his best position, would be wasteful. well the manager signed him to play right back, so I am very happy with that! I trust the manager much more than some of the posters on here!Cos we haven't signed any right backs yet.

If he did that's absolutely fine, but we don't really know the manager's plans and my feeling is that if he does play right back it will only be as a stop gap, short term. John Moore. Founder of a pools empire and a university in Liverpool (according to some of the wits on this thread)Who played right back in the first half today
I'm aware of that but will be stay at right back? He hasn't played there for a long time. I've never seen him play so I don't know, I'm just going off his career to date. He seems to have leadership qualities and much prefer playing centrally.“We’ve had talks before and he likes me at right-back, so we’ll see how it goes.
“The manager is the one in charge, and I can’t complain as long as I’m in the team and helping the lads as much as possible.”

… or possibly a youth team player
Don't know. Neil Critchley is telling him he likes him as a right back so he must have come up with that idea from somewhere unless they're just treading water until Kieran Trippier becomes available after the euros.I'm aware of that but will be stay at right back? True. He got Demi Mitchell wrong though.Don't know. Neil Critchley is telling him he likes him as a right back so he must have come up with that idea from somewhere unless they're just treading water until Kieran Trippier becomes available after the euros.
Ekpiteta and Casey are our two right sided centre halves. If both are injured then Connolly would stand in as a stop gap, as did Turton. In fact he covers all the positions, defensive midfield, right back and right sided centre half!True. He got Demi Mitchell wrong though.
Is he suggesting right back based on watching him or cos we lack right backs? Connolly played a few right back games and then moved to the centre and stayed there through various clubs. Perhaps he will move back there and play the rest of his career there.
I actually think he wants versatility and may ask Connolly to be flexible, starting at right back.
Jack Moore who's a 2nd yr scholar. He joined Pool from Burnley as a 16yr old.Who played right back in the first half today
Glad someone answers a sensible question sensibly.Jack Moore who's a 2nd yr scholar. He joined Pool from Burnley as a 16yr old.
the same could have been said for Turton, Insider, but he never let us down, when asked to play centre half!I didn't think Connolly looked big enough to be a CB but he did seem comfortable at RB.
