The summer transfer rumours thread.

Tai Sodje, 17 year old kid from Man City. Attacker. 19 goals in 22 fir their youth last year. But it’s probably bollocks

What does he say? I don't follow twitter
How very odd.
Since reading his tweet 10mins ago twitter now says "This account doesn't exist".
He said we are going to sign Tai Sodje from City on a 4 yr deal (He's a 17 yr old).
We are also.after a young player from Everton who wants a permanent but Everton only want to loan him out.

Nottingham Forest look to have their RB, if what Nixon said is true (in that Forest will give us Gabriel if they signed another) then this could pave the way for Gabriel to come back.

He played well against Coventry on Sunday so I would think they'd maybe be interested in keeping him now, but if they're going ahead with signing another RB then maybe they are still open to selling him.

I still think we’ll see Gabriel in Tangerine again. There’s no way we’d be this far along without a RB unless we were going all in on JG. The lads the perfect Critch signing and for a six figure sum I think he’s a steal and provides real value. I can’t imagine Forest are done transfer wise and the fact a few teams are in for the lad suggests they have indicated he’s available. It’s these exact sort of transfers that run and run and I’m not surprised Forest are trying to pressure us into stumping up big money. It’ll be a case of us biting the bullet sooner rather than later IMO.

If he costs less than a million quid he’s a bargain and I reckon his value will soar working under Critch. I do think we’ll bring in 2 RB’s though. Maybe brining in 1 that’s not JG may force Forest to drop their demands if we appear less desperate.

We have 38 professionals on the books at the moment. including the promising youngsters and only one of them is a loan signing. Surely this is a record?! Teddy Howe and Sky Sinclair are RBs and Connolly can/does/has played there too, so I can only see us buying or loaning one new RB.

Although Nixon says we are now pursuing a different RB.

I'm not sure what Gabriel's value is? If he couldn't keep Turton out of the side last season, is he worth 750k? Perhaps he is, if he develops into a more valuable player. Would he keep Connolly out of the side? I'm not sure tbh! There's different ways of looking at this situation. I'm happy if we buy him, unconcerned if we don't, personally. Don't see him as a must buy.

We certainly need another RB that can also be a RWB and give us different options. I don't think Connolly can do that, but Gabriel can. If the rumoured £750k to £900k plus add ons is what is being asked for then that seems too much for me, especially for someone not really proven in this league. At this stage BFC also seem to think it is too much. I trust them to make the right assessment and decision, including what is possible from existing budgets, which only they will know.
If we were going to really push the boat out for someone it should be Ellis Simms

I wonder of any of these Acct players have been on our radar. 750k for Burgess maybe puts Gabriel fee in perspective. He's gone to Ipswich. Could Bishop or Charles step up?

Ipswich have £2m - £3m burning a hole in their pocket from selling 3 players off, even then £750k for a L1 player who was signed on a free 12 months ago looks nuts.

Bishop/Charles, Stoke were apparently quoted £2m for the latter and the former is going to be somewhere north of £1m so no.

2 million for Charles seems mental considering he can sign a pre contract somewhere in 4 months.

He’s some one that I’ve followed for a while, (coached him briefly in his youth). I thought he’d be a great signing for us, having seen two games at Championship level so far this season I’m having second thoughts he’d work for us, at this level and in our side.

We were physically bullied against Cardiff and suffered from a lack of know how against BC. Not sure Charles brings that to be honest, and it looks like we’ve found a player in the same mould as Charles with Lavery at a fraction of the price.

If Burgess really went for 750k that really does show how insane football is, and probably always will be considering the last 18 months we’ve been through, apparently the covid period was going to reshape football. Apparently not.

Edit to add - I realise we had a ding dong last week but this was in no way intend as a round 2 of that, merely a comment on a subject.

Need a big lad then what about Kyle Hudlin? 6ft 9 ins the tallest pro footballer in the UK.Solihull Moors striker. Man City reported to be interested though that could be just media talk. He scored a cracker v Halifax the video is on You Tube.

A Florist friend who knows a few folk around the club expects Gabriel to leave before the end of the window.

Florists are rumoured to have bid £1.5m for Reading's Tom Holmes, primarily a CB but can cover RB, this plus the Arsenal RB on loan would presumably leave Gabriel somewhat surplus to requirements.

I'm not sure I'd want to wait for this to come off though, and florists may well be hoping that Gabriel will fund a large chunk of the purchase for them.

"Manchester City are among the clubs chasing Britain's tallest outfield player, 6ft 9in Solihull Moors striker Kyle Hudlin, 21. Middlesbrough and Cardiff City are also watching the Englishman. (The Athletic)

Surprising that City interested. Less surprising that Cardiff and Boro are! 😉

"As I survey the vast expanse Serengeti, a herd of rhinos gallops past a group of giraffes.... (David Attenborough)

Just because Cardiff played a load of giants doesn’t mean we have to copy them.
We already had a 6’4” player and and 6’2” player on the bench and didn’t start them, plus the 3 most dangerous players on current form bench warming.
Should be trying to sign Simms and getting Madine back to fitness asap.
So priorities- Simms, a RB (Gabriel hopefully), plus creative midfielder (not another holding midfielder, we’ve got enough of them!).

Our budget is top end League One, it seems, and probably the lowest in the Championship. Critch can only work with the resources he has. The likes of Sunderland, Sheff Wed and Ipswich are probably spending more than us. We are trying to punch a bit above our weight. Maybe Sadler needs an Uncle Val figure?

Exactly my thoughts too.

We are heavily reliant on SS and in a much much smaller way than seen with Barca, we must be spending more than we have coming in- which is only sustainable for so long. The difference with Barca is the massive guaranteed future income- our income stream could be much more volatile.

So yeah c'mon over Val.

It won't be Val - but how long will Sadler go it alone?

Sensibly consolidate this season see how we do, then invest as we go along. SS has lots of wealthy friends should he feel the need.
Be a shame to get relegated and regret not investing a bit more. Promotion is never easy. Hopefully we will see a bit of quality come in before the deadline. I don't think we are far away but we need a bit more I think.

Can just keep investing though and end up with a big pile of players you can't shift.

They need to start finding a way to sell players for profit and make the football model that SS has switched to more sustainable for the club.

Of course. You can only have 25 players in your squad.

Forest fans and press don't seem to think much of Gabriel, might become available but do we really want him and if so at what price?

If I was us, I'd think anywhere between 500k-750k plus a few add-ons would be acceptable and fair.

If Forest are still in the market for a RB of Cannon's quality they're going to need some more funds (probably about 5,000,000 minimum) so selling Gabriel would make sense, but if they want silly money then I'd kindly tell them to piss off, the same issue with Sunderland and Embo, clubs just expect us to fund their transfer budget, which we shouldn't do whatsoever.

Relegation not on the agenda

Do Blackpool and Sunderland have the same scout?

We were chasing Casey, from Leeds, for weeks before we signed him. And now he won’t play him, he prefers a cart horse like Keogh. So if it’s a loan I think Huggins and Leeds will need some convincing he would get game time. Having said that at least it appears we are trying.

We signed Casey though so I'm sure Leeds aren't that 'rsed whether he plays or not although I do understand your point.

The inportant thing is we are still out there trying to bring in more quality. We still have time and we will improve as long as we avoid some morale sapping heavy defeats in the coming games.

He's too small. We need increase the average height of our team, not decrease it. There are Jenkinson at Forest and Wisdom at Derby available. Both have loads of higher league experience and are a decent size. So far this season the team has lacked physicality!
