Lavery for the question mark and Ekpiteta for Keogh so more of a 4 4 2 with the front 2 and wingers not giving Bristol a second and being a bit direct because we haven't got all the best players available.
 
Whoever plays they will have to up the performance from the warm up games. And that goes for the coaching staff as well.

If that’s the team, unfortunately it looks weaker than the one we finished las season with.

Anyway, only time will tell so I suppose we need to give whoever plays a chance…

Close I think. The team that started at Morecambe won't be far off the starting XI for Bristol. Ekpiteta instead of Keogh hopefully. Mitchell likely to miss out. Lavery instead hopefully! Or TJJ or Bowler.

Would of loved to of seen Dan Ballards name in there. Alas, it is not to be.

Would love to see young Lavery starting alongside Jerry, but away on the 1st game I feel NC will play is safe, Jerry on his own just supported by a packed midfield 😪 hope we can hit them on the break.

I like that. Looks solid enough and sees Garbutt and CJ marauding on the flanks. Keshi sitting behind Yates. Lavery on for Yates last twenty minutes. Maybe cameos for Bowler or John Jules.
 
It was really obvious at Morecambe that we didn't have much craft in the final third. Just lots of honest endeavour. The introduction of Bowler and TJJ highlighted it even more, cos we got some off glimpses of what we needed. A front 4 of Yates, CJ, Mitchell and Anderson was fast and athletic but didn't create much. An away game against a better team that isn't defending in numbers will be different. Pace on the break could be the thing that nicks us a goal, or two. I just hope we link up better and I hope someone like TJJ comes in for Mitchell, to assist in that linking up. TJJ, or Carey, perhaps. I might replace Anderson with Lavery too. At some point anyway.

I've no idea where Critch will go with his team selection for Saturday. What I really don't get, and I've thought this from the start of the preseason friendlies, why haven't we tried Yates and Lavery together in any of the games? We know what the players we had last season are capable of but surely we needed to try to forge some new partnerships, this would have been a good place to start.

Maybe it's been tried in training and hasn't quite clicked. If it's going to work it will happen, I'm sure.

This is what I think NC will go with based off the friendlies and the injuries we have got/possibly missing Stewart/Mitchell but I’d put them in for James/Bowler if available.

I’d love to see us go two up top and put Yates and Lavery together but can’t see it unfortunately.

Things can only get better, still a few weeks to go in the transfer window and I’m sure the squad will be improved.

This is pretty much what I think. It would be Stewart instead of James and Mitchell instead of Bowler if either were fit.

It's a different game with Madine up top. In this formation you're expecting CJ and Bowler to run at the defence which opens up space inside for Yates, (and Keshi) to get in on goal.
 
Anyone else thinking we might have that classic opening day cheeky signing that they've kept under their belts all week ..
