I was reminiscing about the 80s and early 90s and two incidents sprung to mind that made me chuckle.
1. At secondary school approx '83 I was in science class and was playing with a bunsen burner casually waving it around a large plant. Next thing the whole thing is a roaring inferno much to the amusement of my classmates. The teacher said nothing and I though wow she hasn't seen it. The flames die down and I'm thinking this is weird, the bell goes and the teacher bellows "get here boy" to which I was served a night's detention. Fast forward to 2022 I reckon expulsion at the minimum.
2. My first job working at Bolton Town Hall in 92. A royal visit was imminent and security did a full sweep. One of the lads made a fake cartoon bomb which was round and black with curled wire coming out of the top. For extra effect he wrote bomb in white letters at the front and put it on his desk whilst working. Security inspected it and just laughed, fast forward to 2022 he'd have got the sack at the very least.
Glad I was around in the 80s and 90s it was all a bit of a chuckle.
Anyone else got examples of stuff in the past that was treated as a minor indiscretion opposed to the current OTT reaction.
