This country is fcuked.

Having worked and lived all over the UK, the quality of life varies enormously depending on where you live.

There are places throughout the UK that are fantastic, low crime, friendly people, and amazing scenery and weather, plus great food.
There are other areas such as Peterhead and Fraserburgh, with high unemployment, and the highest levels of drug addiction in the country
and everything that comes with that, awful food, horrendous weather, plus hardly anything cultural unless you travel to Aberdeen.

What do you expect after 13 years of Tory misrule? Oh hang on, you wouldn't know about that. You've been away.
…and I have never been back in that time - have I?

..or spoken to me anyone who lives in the Uk!!

Come on 1966 - you know I am a Tory and I have said many times - I couldn’t vote for this lot!!

The difference between me and you is I can see past the colour of my shirt 👍

Its still possible I strongly suggest you do it.

I left 9 years ago and will never live in the UK again, the drop in standards just wouldn't make sense.

I currently have the dilemma of applying for a German passport so that i can have the option to live elsewhere in the EU as well but I don't want to surrender my UK passport. I'll just have to see if my thoughts change in future.

I'm living in Italy (Rome), I have been here for 6 months and much prefer it to the UK ATM.
I have got another 12 months left on this contract which might be extended beyond that. The difference for me is that Italy has it's own problems [obviously] but I don't really understand them and they wouldn't really affect me in any case. Unlike the problems of the UK. Another factor for me is the amount of sunlight and the quality of the ambient light [it's much brighter here] which both affect my mood.
I find the situation in the UK very depressing, there is no easy solution and no politician with both charisma and a coherent vision for the future of the UK. Surely the Tories cannot win again, but you never know. The political landscape us ripe for a good communicator with a vision IMO.
In future I would like to live between the UK and Italy [my partner is Italian but lives in the UK], but let's see what happens after this contract ends.

It’s a great stroke of luck to be born British and live in the best country in the world. Yes easy to knock politicians but it’s impossible to keep everyone happy. It’s does sound like labour intend to keep most of the existing policies so people clamoring for change could be disappointed

This is a decent summary about the state of the UK. I wish people would stop deflecting by calling people who question the state of the UK as whingers, moaners etc grow up folks. The growing economies are rapidly catching up and we've isolated ourselves from our biggest trading partner. We aren't as big as many thought, that's not being disrespectful to this country but a reality. Infrastructure projects and govt investment are pathetically low, the mantra has been low taxation. None of it added up.

This country is great apart from whiners who don't understand how many privileges they have living here. If only they would feck off to their perfect country it would be better still.
Perfect example. Why can't people question things it's not a utopia in the UK, there are a lot that can be improved. Your attitude means that nothing will be done to improve our lot.

Mine was a late Friday evening post. probably not at my best.

I know I can be a broken record at times but the electorate has had 13 years of choosing bad Governments. The Conservatives never have been great believers in public services. However, since 2010 they have excelled themselves in proving their disdain for the public sector. Cameron and Osborne took an axe to local Council budgets; a tired and discredited policy still finding favour with Sunak and Hunt. Public sector wages have been shrunken in real terms. The NHS has been wrecked. Police and prison services have been neglected. Even the armed forces are not fit for purpose. As for Brexit....the greatest single act of self-harm that could possibly have been committed by the British public. Everything is now coming home to roost and it's going to take a lot of putting right.

The 13 years of electing bad governments happened because the opposition parties have been so poor they were unelectable. Sure, the Tories could have done better, but nobody in their right mind could have made an intelligible decision to vote for Labour. What this thread is about is the country being fcuked. Countries are fcuked when like Iran women are executed because they are wearing the 'wrong' clothes. Countries are fcuked when like Ukraine the people go to bed not knowing if they will be bombed and where 7 million people are heading for winter with no heating. Countries are fcuked when like Russia the people are told their sons died fighting to protect them from nazis. Countries are fcuked when like Sudan there is no medicine or food for the people. Countries are fcuked when like Saudi a journalist critical of the government is invited to its embassy where he is chopped into pieces and put out with the garbage.

People in this country have no idea what hardship is. They think the Government should bail them out because they can't afford an iphone 14 and can only take one week holiday in Florida this year instead of two. They think having to choose between food and Sky tv is poverty. 60 years of soft living have blurred the perceptions of the overfed, spoiled, entitled UK citizen who really has no idea what suffering is. It's a good job Putin didn't choose to invade the UK because I fear that he would have been faced with a nation so soft that the people would be queueing to surrender. If there is a single reason to believe that the UK is fcuked it's that far too many of its citizens are suffering from acute entitlement syndrome and have lost sight of reality.

There's a good piece by Andrew Marr inserted at post #25. If you give it a watch you may find your insistence that our countries woes are being overstated by citizens suffering from "acute entitlement syndrome," being tested somewhat

I feel so much better now you've set the bar so low. Yes I wasn't Jewish in nazi Germany, I wasn't an Ethiopian in 84, I didn't live in horishima in 1945 or Chernobyl in the 80s. I didnt fight in the battle of stalingrad, i didn’t live through the bubonic plague. What a time to be alive!

If you have two Jags then you no doubt have a bit of cash, most places are a lot easier to live if you are wealthy.

The point some posters are trying to make is that the UK is in massive decline on all sorts of levels and our near neighbours who we stupidly decided to leave enjoy a much better life experience than many people do in Britain.
