He’s young but he’s absolutely little self control and this has been close in probably half of the games he’s played. Unnecessary red card.

Marv was stupid too but with us already at 10 we needed cool heads to do what they are taught to do in 10 v 11 drills.

Leaves us horribly short of players Wednesday night. Thankfully it didn’t happen Wednesday night as I’d hate to go into Nobbers match without Marv
 
Yes a stupid second yellow. Idiotic in fact. That incident should have seen a second yellow for their guy if DT keeps his head and doesn't make it easy for the ref.

Probably needs some time just to think about how he does things. And please God stop giving him the ball in his own third.

He can give 100% all he wants but until he calms down on and off the ball he will be a liability
Other teams have recognised it
Pukki kept niggling him the other week I noticed .
Today was a ridiculously bad decision from him
He's not a scapegoat and
Cannot be defended

He was petulant. Absolutely ridiculous how he reacted. He should have been busy shithousing around on the floor to get the sheff U lad a second yellow rather than booting the ball at him.

The problem is the consistency of his mistakes , he ain't a scapegoat the criticism is based on facts that have happened in key moments ! It's like he is overplaying the ball/situation where sometimes it just warrants a good clearance or an easy pass.
 
It was a yellow card but I dont think anything wouldve come of it if their player hadnt made a drama of it.It was stupid,DT knows himself he knew straight away. He is stuck in this cycle of making costly mistakes,fans getting on his back,making costly mis.... id be snappy aswell.He did let his teammates down today I accept that I just cant see him getting that confidence back if the fans are on him after every game its counter productive for the team

For the “good centre half” that everyone raves about, he goes to ground far, far too often. Thorniley is much better.
 
Agree with Appleton he is a young player and made some stupid mistakes but getting sent off like that was utterly ridiculous given the state of play. His biggest problem is his lack of composure both with and without the ball and he has to learn fast to keep his discipline or he is going to spend a lot of time warming the bench.
 
The overriding point at the moment is that he's playing awfully.

Without the ban he needed dropping, one game is a blip and happens but two games and then his head going needs work off the pitch from the management and from himself on his own game and attitude.

He puts 100% effort in that is never in doubt but he couldnt channel that today, a slight nudge from the Bosnian lad was enough to get him riled enough to lash out (on a yellow card) and get sent off, footballing nouse of 0% there.

Just a 1 game ban I presume, actually should have been dropped for longer if you asked me but we're back to the bare bones again, which will eventually catch up with us if we're not careful. Really really dumb from him, not for the first time.

Ultimately, he has enough ability to be a success at this level and maybe higher, football IQ, temperament and nouse is at non league level however.

Of course he can be defended as he's one of ours and he puts his body on the line every match and 100% plays for his shirt

He does go to ground quite often you're right when he could use his physical strength and just step across the attacker. To be fair though he has been timing them well this season up to this point. Ive only counted two he's really mistimed all season,one was against Reading.

A good defender won’t go to ground anywhere near as much as Marv does. If you’re having to go to ground it’s due to you either messing up, being out of position or not being confident in your 1v1 defending stood up.

I saw Marv's tackle as payback for being sliced minutes earlier. Premeditated but Thompson gets the stick for toe poking a ball at someone's shins after getting shoved into the advertising hoardings 🤷‍♂️

I think he is confident in his timing plus he has long legs so going to ground early can make up the ground lost if he is caught by a small pacy forward

But if he was a better defender, he’d be better positioned due to knowledge of the game. Therefore, avoiding situations like today.

needs a good couple of months away from first team
imjuries have meant he has had to play all the time
dom learn from your stupidity
you will be a good one if you do
 
I have to say (despite today) I just don't rate this lad. He's been calamitous at the back and going forward he offers nothing. He never takes a man on and ALWAYS turns back and passes backwards. We can probably do better than this lad.
 
I don't mind Thompson and up to giving that goal away a couple of games back he'd been good. I don't know why we want to try to slaughter a guy who's confidence has took a knock. Yeh not great today but cmon sh1t happens, there was barely anything in it just petulence. Game or two out and then he can come back for me with no issues.
