Thompson

Thought he put in a decent shift last night and offers a lot going forward .. much improved for me and hope he kicks on from here.
Yep - had a good game last night and was a threat going forward. Without Hubby he probably had to play due to lack of left footers in the team. Team looked more balanced with him at LWB.

yep. had a decent game apart from a careless minute early in second half.
Aye, he wasn't the only one who seemed to have a wobble. Morgan who also had a good first half just went missing for the 2nd. Fixtures are coming thick and fast, so a bit of rotation is going to be needed. Hopefully Hubby and Norburn will be good for Saturday. That really feels like a big game in our season. Win that and we will be flying.

Agree with most said so far.

I think he's too vulnerable for a back 3/4 player, but at left wing back he's good going forward, and also puts in a stint tracking back.

It might mean someone else being left out, but I like the idea of Hubby and him on the left.

Just put on the other Dom Thom thread, if he can get that major error that leads to conceding a goal out of his system, he'd be a great player.

Thought he was brilliant last night and I thought the same at Charlton. Always liked him but you can't afford to have a player that gives goals away, and he seemed to do that a lot last season.

Lack of real game time saw a few of those coming in run out of legs late on. The subs failed to bring freshness though.

So we will lose! Sorry I've followed us for so many years it's always the case when we have a chance to make things easier we bugger it up. 🤣

You have to wonder if the stiff's games are challenging enough. I agree with most, the fringe players fitted in well and did great first half. 2nd half Thomson went walkabout, Morgan was bullied out of the game, Lavery looked knackered but Connolley, who hasn't featured a lot, looked very fit until the end.

You wonder therefore if Critchley and Co are nursing the players rather than working them. So many teams have looked much fitter and have so much stamina especially over 90 minutes. Derby, Lincoln, Wycombe, Charlton and Cheltenham for starters came back strong late on.

He did play better last night, granted, but not half the player Andy Lyon’s is - I’m astounded
This!

I didn't want to say this because he's getting high praise across this thread. 1st half as an attacking full back he did good. 2nd half he made more than 1 error when having to defend. He was also drifting all over the place leaving big gaps. I'm not crucifying the lad I'm just stating how I saw it. If it was CJ he would have got pelters! And yes Lyons is a step up by some distance.

Thompson should be the LWB if CJ is to play on the Right. NC seems to like idea, so we have to assume that CJ will continue there. Morgan, Weir, Carey and even Connolly all have the same insoluble problem when playing on the Left. They are right footed, and don’t trust their left to centre accurately on the run. Thompson is in a field of one, and Pool looked slick in the first half with that balanced midfield. A change of shape by the opposition at Half Time threw Pool off balance, and the second period was a struggle.
