Please can we say a massive Thank you to Maxwell, CJ and Garbutt and let them go to a decent League One team. They are not Championship level players.
I mean, we'd have no left back for the start of the season as it stands as one is injured and we just let another one go on loan. I'd suggest Garbutt is going no where.
Not sure - I think there's a player in there. A loan at a decent L1 would be good. Maxwell/CJ/Garbutt are not Championship level and never will be now... and Virtue.
Garbutt needs too much time on the ball for him to be a Championship player.I don’t understand why so few people rate Garbutt. As a wing back he’s comfortably a competent Championship player. We look so much more balanced with him at LWB and Gabriel at RWB than we do with any other set up.
Maxwell has proven himself to be a decent Championship GK and also offers plenty to the dressing room. With Grimshaw signing a new contract it’s likely Maxwell will be a back up and it’s a great back up to have - especially with Moore as a 3rd choice.
Hamilton needs time to play under Appleton. He sometimes looked a bit lost playing as an inverted winger but he’s definitely worth persevering with. You don’t get international call ups if you’re not a decent player. He’s got all the physical attributes of a top Championship winger. If he can improve his touch and final ball (which may come with playing on his preferred side and with more supportive midfielders i.e not DM’s but ACM) then he could be a real asset - certainly as an option from the bench.
It is going to cost a few bob to replace that lot with better. I am glad I don't own the club. These should go (perm or loan) along with a few I feel we can’t give up on yet…..
Maxwell will always be second choice now, so why keep him on such high wages?
Garbutt might be comfortable on the ball, but he’s not too dissimilar to Reece J, neither of them seem to have mud on their shirts post match.
Thorniley I’m not sure about. He’s got a very good cross field pass In him, but above all - he should be able to defend and yes he’s average at that.
Husband can’t pass for toffee but defensively he is brave and always puts 110% into each game, so I’m 50/50 on this
Matty Virtue we can’t possibly know what he’s gonna be like at this level as he hasn’t played much, so another who’s 50/50
Dougall was great at L1, but this level it’s too much. Hardly ever makes a forward pass, and annoyingly always comes deep to collect the ball from Grimmy, but then passes it straight back to him. I cannot understand that, as often there’s no one around him.
CJ - give him till Jan. If fully fit, he can do damage at this level, but he’s a confidence player.
Yates - again give till Jan
Don’t agree on Garbutt at all. When he played early last season there was no Gabriel or RB whatsoever so it was easy for teams to press him quickly and essentially block off the source of our build up play. He never got a real run of games where he could play to his strengths.Garbutt needs too much time on the ball for him to be a Championship player.
CJ just hasn't got I'm afraid. Not that quick at Championship level, ineffective on the ball, can't shoot, can't cross, no physical strength on the ball and first touch like a Sunday league player. Perfect at L1 level.

Maxwell did well until his injury i think he definitely deserves another seasonPlease can we say a massive Thank you to Maxwell, CJ and Garbutt and let them go to a decent League One team. They are not Championship level players.
Ha ha - wow, I cannot believe you think CJ is a player that will assist in taking our club forward this season. As for the international comment that is just embarrassing.....Don’t agree on Garbutt at all. As for your opinion on CJ that’s pub football talk. He’s a full international and even in footballing terms he’s absolutely rapid. That’s a fact. He’s obviously much better than you’re willing to give him credit for and again with Appleton preferring more traditional wingers (which will suit CJ) and more bodies further upfield in attack (will also suit CJ) and with the 5 sub rule coming in to place CJ could be massive for us. Buying that raw pace is nigh on impossible at this level especially with our resources
Totally agree. We are going down with the squad as it is. I’d add Husband, Stewart, Anderson, Dougall and Lubala to that list too. Fine in L1 but we need better in the Championship if we are to survive. Please can we say a massive Thank you to Maxwell, CJ and Garbutt and let them go to a decent League One team. They are not Championship level players.
Why is it embarrassing? Recognised as being good enough for international football by top coaches, scouts and managers. I trust their assessment of a player more than I do a bloke sat at his pc calling a professional athlete out for his Sunday league level first touch…Ha ha - wow, I cannot believe you think CJ is a player that will assist in taking our club forward this season. ROI can barely name a 21 player squad, their best player by a country mile is the reserve Liverpool goalie. CJ made a 20 min cameo for ROI and fluffed a 1:1 chance to win the game for them.....Next you'll be telling me that Richard Kingson was an amazing goalie coz he got picked for Ghana...Why is it embarrassing? it was southport....and prob reiterates the point I'm making! Two pre season friendlies, 2 goals, the first scored by CJ but people want him out. What about those who didn’t score?
Good job Critchley’s gone, he would have a helluva job trying to cram 5 subs in the last 15 minutes.Worth remembering its 5 subs this season. So having strength in depth and options from the bench is a great thing. So ‘squad players’ are VERY important - especially if subs are used more effectively than under Critchley. Wing Backs, Pacey Wingers and Youth will be handy options

I reckon his only long term career injury, and at this stage of his career, has probably knocked his confidence.Definitely Maxwell he just shows no composure and I'm sure is literally glued on the line like a bar football goalie
Blimey, no nonsense appraisals there Husband was superb last season in my opinionThese should go (perm or loan) along with a few I feel we can’t give up on yet…..

You have proved my point. He scored, where were the others?it was southport....and prob reiterates the point I'm making!
I see Ronaldo wants out at United, he could probably still do a job at this level.
That seems to be the level of delusion some are operating at.
Hamilton will look better in a 4 3 3, if we get a few better quality players in he might have a good season.Garbutt still worth keeping and giving a go for me , I don't believe he's signed a new contract since promotion either so is likely not on as much as, say, Maxwell. I'm definitely skeptical and worry about him defensively but eh, he looks the part, would love for his set piece ability to flourish, more james ward nowt than James ward prowse
CJ similarly is likely on a low wage by champ standards and he definitely had some moments last year, sadly those moments were interspersed with hours upon hours of football where he looked totally out of his depth, so I don't know. Would love to be able to loan him out to develop some end product in a more forgiving environment but as it stands I don't think we have that luxury.
Maxi, though he's been a top 3 (gilks, banks, Maxwell) keeper in my lifetime is likely on too much money to sit on the bench all year.
It's how you define 'Championship level players' - most sides will only have a percentage of players who you would describe as knocking on the door of taking the next step up. We showed last season that with very few additions we survived in this league. More about aptitude, commitment and remaining injury free for me as well as having that bit of quality. Please can we say a massive Thank you to Maxwell, CJ and Garbutt and let them go to a decent League One team. They are not Championship level players.
Your having a laugh aren't you CJ was probably the most improving player of last season . Maxwell would be one of the best reserve goalies in the championship and you may be right about Garbutt , but all our defenders looked shodey against Leeds .Please can we say a massive Thank you to Maxwell, CJ and Garbutt and let them go to a decent League One team. They are not Championship level players.
Sadly without replacements, it looks like we'll have a make do and mend policy for the start of the season. Please can we say a massive Thank you to Maxwell, CJ and Garbutt and let them go to a decent League One team. They are not Championship level players.
