Toxic AVFTT

I don't find it toxic. Yes there are spats and sometimes it can be OTT but what else do you expect from a message board? I haven't seen anything too nasty or threatening and the arguments and discussions are reasonably amicable.

Glad it's not just me. I read the OP and wondered if I'd missed large chunks of pretty terrible stuff.

AVFTT was totally toxic at one point during the O's reign - it's completely normal these days.

The OP called me something last week and I've had tiffs with Rusty and 20s (I'd be worried if I hadn't 😂)
Although I haven't knowingly met anyone we all have an internet persona and in a message board kind of way get to "know" each other. In that respect calling someone a dick is a bit like being in the pub and saying it to someone you know. It's fairly harmless and although I may bitterly disagree with some views on here it's not something that would or should ever bother me. Bob is a mincing snowflake that's all.

Pmsl happy new year Shandypants

It is what it is, personally think it is less toxic than the old site. There has been some cracking stuff on here, I have learnt a lot, had to research a lot of misleading stuff, and some of the outright abuse from self righteous posters is actually hilarious.

I also think this year, where we have all been cooped up much more than we are used to, it has been a valuable resource to allow folk to vent.

If you ever wonder whether to take its seriously, check out match day threads. The same folk who are arguing on this side are chatting quite normally. As said above, we are all Pool fans, just because someone holds different views from you doesn't make them an extremist, and in the end, when all is added up, it doesn't make a gnats bollock hair of difference.

UTMP and lets hope we are all back to Bloomers this season. Stay healthy out there, love you all 😍

As others have said I don't think there is much hostility shown to other posters at all. The odd comment crosses the line but these are few and far between and it's usually the same few that are guilty of this, but they represent a very small minority. Clearly things can get a bit heated when politics is discussed but the ire is usually directed at politicians rather than other posters.
I'd venture that, in general, opinions on here tend to lean towards the left which may explain why most of those that complain about the political posts hold right of centre views and don't like what they're reading.

Some good points made on the thread, notably by ESBN, Biff, Blood and Mex. I had to smile when I saw who started it ; to me Bob seems quite capable of looking after himself when hurly meets burly. 😀

The first question for me is : toxic, compared with what?

I think the vilest forum I read - by far - is Twitter. Some of the stuff on there is awful, insane, and often both. The second worst forum I think I have read would be BHS. And I should say that the content in question was probably generated by less than a dozen posters. But they didn't get lost in the traffic in the way that they could have done on AVFTT.

Looking at this forum in particular, I don't think it is currently toxic at all. I'd say its worst time for me was around 2014 -15 when moderation seemed practically non-existent and one or two people were taking full advantage. Some seriously nasty stuff was thrown around then, there was a great deal of mistrust between posters, and a lot of frustration and anger about the state of the club more generally. Compared with that, this seems pretty benign.

It's true that some people do regularly give offence ; rather more seem very keen to TAKE offence about very little. There are some people who fancy themselves as quasi-moderators and try to regulate the content of others ; but they generally get short shrift when they do.

The focus for much of the argument is politics, and that has been the case since 2016. There was a time when this was the bread and butter of this forum, so calls for it to be outlawed are very wide of the mark (and oppressive). Separating it from the main football forum was the right thing to do, as it meant that people could (and do) avoid it if they don't like it or are not interested.

You can also ignore people if you wish, and I suspect quite a lot of people do. I don't personally, but the important thing is that I can if I want - it is a major plus point of the new forum. And you can report stuff that you think is problematic and in my experience get a fairly quick response.

I don't think you will ever completely eliminate WUMS, and there are still several around even now. But I think Bob is completely over-stating the problem, such as it is. To my mind, the worst single thing about AVFTT these days is the number of racists who post on a regular basis. They aren't hard to spot, but the ignorance and bigotry that characterises their posting makes me slightly ashamed that they are part of the Blackpool family. But that's life.

Your humour comment is spot on. Too often it's missed or overlooked with the written word on here. I know there's some serious issues going on at the moment but some people seem to have forgotten what humour is.
20's if only you had one (a sense of humour that is) for the hard of understanding. 😉

Fortunately I was just looking through my ignore list and found what you had posted and I actually agree wih some of it. 😉

Agree with all that. It really does make me chuckle when people come on here with their advice for me. Whereas I accept the option to ignore if you wish to do so, I disagree with Robbie and one or two others and feel the board is far more toxic now than four or five years go. My reason for thinking that? Single agenda posters! As some-one mentioned previously I'll happily talk football and agree or disagree with them about the game on the other side of the board irrespective of what they post on this side of the board. You can't do that with single agenda posters.

Good post Robbie and as you say you are probably right in that I did overstate it by calling it toxic but I didn't like the way some posters always banded together to attack others. Agree with the racist element, no place for it in a decent society. As being able to look after myself, apparently I am a mincing snowflake so not sure I can 😉

Make no mistake about it, Robbie's is very much a loaded post. A careless one at that. I'm struggling to find this notably good point that Mex has made according to Robbie. And that's not a criticism of you Mex as you haven't particularly offered any point at all.

Well if you don't agree you can fuck right off.
Good man 😁

Great OP and I had a slight guffaw at BRRs response as its ever so slightly disingenuous, however racism is part and parcel of football forums and also with engagement within the FSA.

I guess we get the world we deserve at times but AVFTT does offer a nice break from it in the main

You do realise how paranoid your post sounds?

👀 🥸 👀

Don’t you?

If you want to call it paranoid then that's fine but I'm still struggling to find the notably good point you made though. People write posts, I read them and then if i feel the need I comment. Simples.

I don’t know either.

I suspect it was the fire station gag but you’d have to confirm that with Robbie.

Anyway. Someone will ring your front door bell in 5 minutes and 22 seconds from.......now!!!!

I disagree with your whole agenda for coming on AVFTT Cat.

But I genuinely hope you've had a good Christmas and I also hope you have a good new year too. My comment on the Hitchhikers thread was an attempt at humour. See my earlier reply to Blood..
Of course it was humour. Come on Cat, get aboard the Love Bug.

It's an interesting thread. We need this sort of self-examination once in a while to put us back in balance. For me, on the politics side, I will make the effort to pick up on an opposing view and take any crumb I can agree with and develop it back to the poster. That can work well at times to put conversations back on a more reasoned footing.
Also, if I've gone OTT I become disappointed in myself, so try to redress the balance.

It's a good idea... I generally just reflect back what I get given...I agree it can be disappointing when you go too far, but some people deserve all they get. 🤣

Well I’m listening to this in a minute and not even Catinsanity can spoil my mood 🕺

Happy Mew Year 😛

Bang on. Racism is the least thing I see on here. But whatever, Happy New Year all, even you 20's x
