Ahh right the one not in my pic but post 28, which we've discussed and was said to be too small.Off Lawsons Rd, yes

Yes why? Part of it is within Blackpool boundary.Isn’t the bit circled off staining road just after the camp site ?
Maybe there is, maybe there isn't but there is certainly enough to build a facility and a lot of it is brownfield/park in a poor state.Eh? I don't see 100,000 Square meters of available land round there...
There doesn't seem enough room and it was an example of our nearest neighbours one.Maybe there is, maybe there isn't but there is certainly enough to build a facility and a lot of it is brownfield/park in a poor state.
There are lots of negatives to Poolfoot - parking for one - so I don't know why it is being held up as the gold standard. Bigger just for the sake of it wouldn't automatically make ours better.
I was always of the understanding that the middle of squires gate lane was the boundary between blackpool and St Anne's... making it actually st Anne's air port and presumably the training ground as well.Isn't the existing training ground, by definition (and picture 1), outside of Blackpool?
Well on Google the boundary is indeed on squire's gate late meaning the flats etc opposite lee raj area technically should be stannes. You would never claim to be in stannes there so all very silly.I was always of the understanding that the middle of squires gate lane was the boundary between blackpool and St Anne's... making it actually st Anne's air port and presumably the training ground as well.
With all due respect, looking at your picture.... your looking a bit worse for wear there, so maybe the effects are slightly more concerning that first envisagedI used to train on Fishers field on Highfield rd, what wrong with that ?
Russ maybe add the land on Garstang rd west that my old School St Toms/All Saints used to be on….Some figures I did with Google Earth a few years back.
All in square meters.
Squires Gate: 26,570m2
Local Clubs Training Grounds
Fleetwood : 125,266 (some is Thornton FC and community use)
Blackburn Rovers : 61,738
PNE(formally Boltons, then Wigans) : 35,187
Brighton : 148,000
Brentford : 92,300
Bristol City : 160,500
Reading : 93,001
And some land in Blackpool
Fisher Field : 19,374
Arnold School Field (by St. Annes Rd) 23,000
Lawsons Field (main square bit) : 69,910
Lawsons Field (between Alotments and Rosefinch estate) : 78,000
Stanley Park Golf Course (area within SP) : 166,856
Stanley Park Golf Course (Hospital Side) : 191,743
The old school site on Bispham Rd : 31,375
Sports field on Fleetwood Rd where Blackpool CC (3rd and 4th team) and Blackpool Archery club use : 18,826
Land South of Newton Hall Holiday Park : 221,000 (Half of this is in Fylde)
That would have been my guess. Bottom left, 3rd photo. The site is easily big enough, but a) local dog walkers might not be happy: b) folk who like to grow their own produce.Yeah would only be approx 70, 000 square meters as mentioned Fleetwood is probably well over 100,000.
Also the area is very close to the Marton mere conservation area.
So the only real options that are big enough, never mind available and suitable land.....are lawsons area, the herons reach area near staining, Common edge and maybe some area near the new post office? Also off school Road area is space although again, technically outside Blackpool even though any address round there still in FY4 is still called Blackpool but not from the council's point of view?My opinion would be to develop the Lawson's Road area+the allotment area+old show ground area. For expansion and community use you could also go across East Park Drive into Stanley Park and develop the cricket/football pitches close to the model village and Stanley Park Oval to create a Sports village as the Leisure Centre and 5 a side pitches are already there. Dog owners will be up in arms but you could also include a fenced off doggie park.
Kingscote park ?So the only real options that are big enough, never mind available and suitable land.....are lawsons area, the herons reach area near staining, Common edge and maybe some area near the new post office? Is Common edge overlooked here? Its got space and they mentioned building pitches there would this community asset not go there, its not central or in the heart but with little options....
So this is what your referring to?I grew up on Newton Drive and the house I lived in, when it was built in the 1930s, was the last house in Blackpool. The boundary did get extended by a couple of hundred metres to where it is now. UTMP
See pub planning put in for there.. apparently 1st thing of the development?Somebody mentioned the Wyndyke Farm land where Oyston wants to build that big new development., thats all Fylde land although the access road is in Blackpool.
Thanks, interesting, i have only skimmed through and is more about pinching a bit of the green belt for the Blackpool enterprise zone, which rules out common edge at least for the training groundThere are lots of nice maps on here:
My brother in law who worked for the Parks Dept all his life & is now 86 told me that years ago the football club did consider Kingscote Park to build their stadium .Kingscote park ?
I dont think they will want to get rid of a public park even for a community asset.Kingscote park ?
I can't pick out the detail. My Mum & Dad's house was directly opposite the entrance to what is now the road into Heron's Reach. The boundary change probably happened 70 years ago!!So this is what your referring to?

So even now on maps it shows the boundary as being right through an area of houses. But when you click the map the addresses beyond that are still Blackpool and doesn't turn to Poulton until end of normoss road. So maybe the boundary is already extended but not shown as in the picture?
Thought wiz posts said it was Lawsons Rd, maybe wrong.Yes why? Part of it is within Blackpool boundary.
But even if we spot a space big enough it doesn't mean its available, its not flat so would need more work etc.
This is the Lawson's one near Marton mere.Thought wiz posts said it was Lawsons Rd, maybe wrong.
I’m sure I’d heard this location off Lawson Rd mentioned. I’ve no idea if it’s big enough though. View attachment 7043
You mean herons way the road? As thats where it still is now the boundary, but as said the houses beyond still show as Blackpool addresses, but maybe they are fylde council or something but just use Blackpool addresses.....I can't pick out the detail. My Mum & Dad's house was directly opposite the entrance to what is now the road into Heron's Reach. The boundary change probably happened 70 years ago!!
No one in the Fylde feels any allegiance to Preston until you get past the pit at Motorlands (on the way to Warton), the accent changes there as well weirdly.I previously did an OP on that TKL. Similar to Stoke or Wakefield, both 'cities' made up of 5 towns.
Surely a high population of both Wyre & Fylde feel more of an allegiance to Blackpool than Preston town hall. A population of around 350k would certain give the City of Fylde more clout.
Still on, but unrelated. What happened to the idea of doing something at the Revoe? Was that all just talk?
We don’t need that amount of space for the new state of the art training complex!

Isn't that the sceme I posted earlier.Still on, but unrelated.
This is true.No one in the Fylde feels any allegiance to Preston until you get past the pit at Motorlands (on the way to Warton), the accent changes there as well weirdly.
Warton and Freck are kind of 50/50 and a bit weird anyway, I never used to class them as Fylde.
But didn't they do this with Blackpool Council as they have backed the club and that site is beyond the boundary?I've heard the land at the rear of Grange Park adjacent to Garstang Rd...
Grew up at Normoss & since "St Joseph's playing fields" ceased being as such years ago I was surprised it was never built on. From there heading towards Garstang Road, east of Grange Park, is a big piece of land.I've heard the land at the rear of Grange Park adjacent to Garstang Rd...
The plans for these pitches / community trust facilities are very much part of a long term plan by the CT and go back 10+ years. Those original mock ups were quite possibly put together before there was a South East stand.Anyone else annoyed the picture of the ground has no NE and SE corners
Not quite, the council still own the land and are trying to get permission to sell it to a builder to build houses there however Sport England have objected as they want it to be a sport based use to replace the old school. A training ground would be a good fit there I reckon.I think that's been bought up for housing?
The bit directly behind the squirrel is only maybe 30 000 square meters, too small, unless they include the bit to the left of it that the houses are going on, or were planned to.Not quite, the council still own the land and are trying to get permission to sell it to a builder to build houses there however Sport England have objected as they want it to be a sport based use to replace the old school. I wouldn't have thought so, more a bonus, but anywhere its built is looking kielly to be on the outskirts and outside the blackpool area anyway given the green space limitations...Does easy access for players coming from out of town come into it ? From squires gate your pretty much straight on M55 !!!
Yes but go on maps and the actual field is lawson's fieldForget Lawson Road. BTW it’s Lawson not Lawson’s Road.
The land was given to Blackpool Council by Mr William Lawson on the proviso it could not be built on. Ok, there were prefabs on there but were only temporary following the war.
