Training ground location

I previously did an OP on that TKL. Similar to Stoke or Wakefield, both 'cities' made up of 5 towns.
Surely a high population of both Wyre & Fylde feel more of an allegiance to Blackpool than Preston town hall. A population of around 350k would certain give the City of Fylde more clout.
There's no 'surely' about it - they don't feel an allegiance to Blackpool.

Given we should be getting an announcement in autumn I wonder what they have chosen.....

Depends on a few factors. Space. Access. If they can legally overturn covenants for main choice. If the council or landowners are reasonable with their price. So the need for several site options and delay in announcing.
Agree they must be close to a resolution by now. Plans will need amending with chosen location. I expect this will be linked in with a big comms announcement, so all that to factor in as well.

Gerrity said at the open training session there would be an autumn announcement.

Fair do's was more wishful thinking. I think we could write off Fleetwood & FY8 would think it's beneath them so you're probably not wrong.
For God's sake don't write off FY8! I agree there is a lot of snobbery from people who don't want to be associated with the riff raffery of the golden mile, (Ive spent a lifetime setting them straight) but they'll happily go to Stanley Park, Blackpool Vic and the zoo, and take their grandkids to the pleasure beach, and Blackpool and FYLDE college takes loads of Fylde residents. Having lived in Fleetwood, Blackpool and Lytham St Anne's for most of my life I'd say there is more that unites than divides these places.

So I was wondering about this and it comes up against one of the issues Blackpool has, the lack of space within its boundary available.

Heres the issue...

''Documents also refer to the club’s desire to relocate its training ground away from Squires Gate and say it is “seeking a location in the heart of Blackpool but has not been able to identify a suitable site.”

That from the gazette.

There just isn't the space within the heart of Blackpool for such a facility.

You look at Fleetwood poolfoot farm and its a fairly big site. To get anything near that or even smaller you aren't going to get it where they want it, which is accessible to the whole town in the heart.

There's a couple of places but barring that you'd have to be outside of Blackpool.

You look at the green area off school Road there and thats a big space where such a facility could be, however technically outside the Blackpool boundary again but like Whitehills business Park with b and q etc, it's outside but still classed as Blackpool, its still FY4 and addresses are still for Blackpool.

A separate issue but Blackpool should be able to expand its boundary to make up most of FY4 and FY3 so it can expand and grow properly as a town.

Anyway, only really common edge could provide the space for the facility inside Blackpool.

So what will the club do? What can they do? Does it have to be in Blackpool or is FY4 or FY3 still count as it does for those businesses there? Does it matter?

I dont see how they can achieve their goal of in the heart of Blackpool or to be honest even within Blackpool itself.
That's a brilliant job all that research.

Mereside rd park would probably be the best location, best logistics for the players and staff that travel and the local players. Always empty when I
pass during the working hours, and apart from dog walkers which could be assigned a small area, only gets used at weekends. It is also super easy to get to Bloomfield rd from there.

Sadly... the green area off school Road used to be a tip & has ground issues, it is also owned by LCC so that is unlikley..

You mean next to clifton road, too small only aprox 35k square metres.

Apparently already decided on Garstang Road but that technically in Poulton or wyre council.

The boundary between Blackpool and Wyre Council / Lancashire County Council on Garstang Rd West is only about 100 yards from where the existing site of the Playfootball / Vida is. This would not seem to give enough room unless they were also going to put a planning application in to more than one Council.

Theres almost nothing left to build on there in Blackpool council area and it will likely be all outside in wyre.

Could be something like this....

JJpool it was me back in May who posted that a BFC scout had told me the new training ground was going to be on my old school site (All Saints) on Garstang rd west….
Ps I can see the stream we used to go through on cross country running…freezing.

Ahh ok, I was just going of what people said they heard on the podcast, maybe that came from you initially.

Poolfoot also isn't in Fleetwood.

With regard to the training ground and the location of Blackpool fans and many living outside the town.

I should imagine the reason for preferring it to be as centrally located in the town as possible is to do with the potential of using it as a community facility for Blackpool residents.

Its kind of central but not exactly what I think they meant.

Many could have told them its virtually impossible to have a decent sized facility in Central Blackpool, so when it said they were seeking a location on the heart of Blackpool i though good luck, maybe some who said it didn't realise about the lack of space?

I was always of the understanding that the middle of squires gate lane was the boundary between blackpool and St Anne's... making it actually st Anne's air port and presumably the training ground as well.
That’s correct. Division Lane used to run right through the middle of the land before it became the airport. My Gt. Grandfather used to farm 400 acres before it became the racecourse then airport.

You mean Sandham’s Green on Clifton Road?

There's an accurate boundary on here, the Google maps one is off slightly.

This correctly shows it up near Cleveleys not quite upto the high Street like the other one.

Just select boundary and then unitary authority.

👍 I posted something similar last year but was told it was for housing.

I mentioned this on the podcast but only because I’d seen it posted that the Academy players parents had been told that’s where it’s going to be
Can’t comment on the credentials of the poster but it seemed genuine and the site is without doubt a decent one from a number of perspectives

Patience is a virtue! We must all wait until the official announcement. Why wast time and effort with so many mainly unfounded rumours?
