Closes on Thursday night…

After yesterday, what we needing?

Critchley can talk about “the group” and “players within the building” but we need some new and fresh options.

We’ve lost Dougall who’ll be a miss over the rest of the season, Weir didn’t work out, Tharme has gone, Thompson gone on loan & we’ve let Apter go… it’s only my opinion but yesterday, the last 20 was made for us to have another tricky skilful player as an option to come on and they’ll be more games like that before the end of season.

We’ve signed Coulson so far on loan. It’s not great is it?

Central midfield is essential. Norburn and Morgan are good, but there’s lots of games and bringing Matty Virtue on as a game changer isn’t for me. We need to sign one.

If Rhodes has picked up a knock and also the fact he’s been running like the tin-man for a few weeks we need a different striking option as good as he’s been. Pace and height be nice, but pace is preferred as we’ve only got Lavery who’s due a chocolate hamstring going. I don’t think we’ll get a striker as NC will be loyal to Beesley and Kouassi returning, but be great to add one.

We also need another tricky player to help us win games when Dembele (who’s a joy to watch) isn’t fully on it or he’s tiring, someone like Rob Apter maybe?

It’s not going to take much to get us kicking on as we’re now playing well, but we do need it. Time to show some £££ and intent.

If we want to make the play-offs we need ar least 2 in.

Young striker on loan will come in I think.

A midfielder hopefully will also arrive who will be able to stamp his authority on a game and find passes early.

A LCB would also be welcome.

Have a feeling there will be a couple of surprise outs.

Would one of the surprise outs possibly be Gabriel? Surely he’s wanting to play every game and it’s weird we’re not.

As long as the young striker has pace that’s fine.

I'd be surprised if Gabriel goes. Lyons looks better than 50/50 for leaving to me as does one of Dale/Carey. Edit to add Virtue to those 2.

If we don’t sign any more quality then it speaks volumes about the ambition at the club or lack of it…they have known Dougall was off for ages and to not have sourced and recruited a quality replacement is not good..we also need a ball playing centre half preferably a leftie
How many quality players are available in Jan for our budget. Club has ambition but Sadler is not going to throw massive amounts of money at it, he said from day1 he wants us to be self sustaining

We’ve sold Josh Bowler for 4m and Yates for 2.5m and we once bid 1m for Cameron Brannagan.

The wage bill has been trimmed this month so we need to be bringing players in to get in the play-offs not win the self-sustaining league.

The club will only be self sustaining when we start producing players from our academy who can be sold on for good profit, obviously we are a million miles from that so SS going to have to subsidise the club going forward.

Like Coulson in/Thompson out I would imagine we'll be looking to see what pops up or who we get offered and if something can be done rather than having a plan.

If we get knocked out of the BSM Trophy it might free up a couple more to leave to keep trimming the wage bill. Oakley-Boothe has only been covering those games since Critchley took him out of the league at half time at Fleetwood, so that's one you'd think.

Not many players of quality available in this transfer window. Bargain basement stuff at best.

Not sure who’s available as a marquee signing to wow us up & spark a champagne finish to the season ? Equally not sure Sadler would sanction such a signing (s) given the unfavourable position regarding promotion prospects we are in.

There is also the prospect of a summer overhaul of the playing staff potentially coming up too - 9 of the 18 man squad yesterday are either on loan or out of contract come season end.

we had a great lad in the building but he’s loaned out to tranmere

It’ll be the same as every other January window. Several names in the frame, bids not high enough, nobody in. Plus, a crowd favourite through the door (which has happened already). Don’t build your hopes up.

I don’t think we need a forward as Koussai is still to come back but we could do with a mid. The decision to let Apter go back looks worse/more bizarre by the week. Imagine if we brought in someone like him on loan, we would be thrilled. Baffling.
Yes, it would've been totally baffling if we had loaned in a League 2 player with 11 starts to his name.

Who would you drop from the starting line up and out of the squad we had on Saturday for the new signings?

Imagine having another player who can create, so when Dembele tires and is less effective later on, you could replace him and have someone fresh who can do a bit too. Or even put them on together at times. Probably not realistic or going to happen though.

So...

A DM maybe.
CB?

Virtue and wouldn’t have 3 defenders on the bench.

After being all over them and Lavery on for Rhodes at half-time, we brought on a right back and Matty Virtue to try and win the game in the last 20 minutes.

Dembele is different class but he tires late on in most games and we need options to change games. The starting 11 is good, but any injuries in central midfield or a Lavery or a Joseph one and we are struggling. Unrealistic to not expect at least one.

Hopefully not but as a manager it must be a good feeling to have game changing options on your bench.

I agree about having another creative midfielder who can change games, either as a starter or off the bench (no idea if Apter is that player?).
Sadly I don't see that happening in the next 3 days but I'd love to be proved wrong.

But even at home where we're often on top, we have the odd defensive panic where we gift chances to the opposition.
I'd like to see a composed CB who can carry and or/pass the ball out of defence.

I thought Tirrell Thomas (left footed) looked a good player for them on Saturday apparently we have shown interest in him.

CB and a CAM but I’d be surprised if we get even one. Not to be negative like, just think that would be a very high expectation to deliver on. Hope they’re not gambling on going up as is though.

The biggest signing would be Critchley changing formation and getting proper full backs and wingers in the team.

Yes it looked good on Saturday but we are stuttering to mediocrity due to the inconsistency.

If had to pick a position, a midfielder to compete with Morgan would be an obvious one. Then we really could do with an experienced centre half as the defence still look like strangers playing with each other at times.

Everyone is forgetting Pennington. Very good player imo, just not getting a game for some reason.

Elkan Baggott from Ipswich (CB) could be a possibility again. He nearly signed in August only for it to fall through at the last. He's not played much at Ipswich except for Carabao Cup games and he's been playing for Indonesia in the AFC Cup. Now Indonesia is out, the Ipswich manager has said he's looking at the possibility of sorting a loan out.
